21DPC Roundup – How Has Your Experience Been?

This is the roundup post for the 21-Day Positivity Challenge held in March 2012, where we work on being positive for 21 days. The challenge is now over but you can do the tasks in your own time. Visit the overview page for all the challenge tasks.

21DPC Day 21

Hello everyone! Welcome to the round-up post for 21-Day Positivity Challenge (and the last post for 21DPC)! :D

Your Feedback Needed

As usual with all challenges at PE, I need your feedback, which will help me in creating bigger, better challenges in the future. While Day 21’s task was on your 21DPC journey, today’s round-up task is to get your feedback on the course itself.

Regardless of whether you committed yourself to the full 21DPC or only filed your progress on several days, I want to hear from you. Please take a few minutes to answer the following 5 questions (the more detailed your feedback, the better it’ll be):

  1. How was 21DPC for you?
  2. On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?
  3. What did you like most about 21DPC?
  4. What did you like least?
  5. Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?

As a recap, here are the posts for the past 21 days:

All comments will be closed on 23 March, 11:59pm, EST. That’s only 2 days left, as of the publishing of this post.

Check the comments of the posts in the past 21 days and post your final thoughts if any. This is your final chance to interact with the others as a 21DPC group!

April Challenge?

For April, I’m considering having a cultivate [X habit] challenge, whereby X habit would be the habit is voted by you. The habit can be a new habit you want to cultivate or an existing habit you are semi-doing now but want to push it to the next level. The challenge will be in the same style as the meditation challenge last October (2011), whereby everyone gets to create their individual habit journals in the forums, and journal about their progress in the 21 days. Also, there will be the daily group threads where everyone fall in and get their progress recorded in the group progress chart.

The challenge will not cover any theory on the X habit or on cultivating habits (all this information on the latter can be found on Personal Excellence, in the habit cultivation series) – but rather, it’s all hands-on, where you take action on the habit you want to cultivate, apply what you have been learning from the articles at PE, and ingrain that habit as a permanent part of your life.

What do you guys think about that? Will it be something you will be interested in?

As for the habit itself, I’m considering either having a *specific habit* for the entire challenge (if that is the case, it will be based on the majority vote), or an anything-goes habit challenge where participants pick whatever habit they want as they enter the challenge. Like reading, writing, meditating, exercising, singing, making friends, whatever. Since everyone has varied interests, and since we have already covered a number of habits in the past challenges, I’m more inclined towards the latter idea right now. Let me know what you guys think.

I’ll take your feedback into careful consideration before making the next announcement for April challenge (if any – no guarantees). If it goes ahead, the announcement will be up sometime early next week, after 21DPC closes completely and everyone has a few days to rest/tend to their stuff before the next challenge starts.

  1. How was 21DPC for you?
IT was the first time for me to attend such an interactive forum/challange and I am glad I was a part of it, it has been quite useful improving my positivity and learned new things fm friends posts
On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?
I would give 8, for giving an insight to me and making me think and explore myself everyday
What did you like most about 21DPC?
The dicipline was great, everyday a question, and being interactive, letting people comment on yr replies, I liked these all
    What did you like least?
    Nothing special really
Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?
I will definetly be a follower, maybe can be a challange about loving self or improving consciousness, or self esteem?

And Celes, I wonder if I will be reaching the whole days comments later on as well since I really would like to go over al sometimes?

Thank you Celes for this wonderful challange and thank you all friends joined this!

  2. The 21DPC challenge has been very fun, exciting and enlightening for me.
I would rate it as a 10 as far as being useful to me because it let me think on each question and rethink things in my life and I also enjoyed having to list one positive big or small for each entry. It’s important to keep even the little things in mind.
I liked most about 21DPC the things that went along with each question, such as if it was about what makes you laugh, then do that for the day. I also enjoyed the one on negative people in our lives, because it gave me time to reflect on their positives and also why their opinion or negativity mattered so much to me.
There was nothing I disliked about this challenge at all.
I think the April challenge you are considering Celes sounds wonderful. To do something for 21 days and post about it is a great idea. I of course like books. I also like movies.
People do have so many different taste and activities they enjoy.
I love everything I have been able to participate in with Personal Excellence. I’m not sure what more anyone could ask for. You put such hard work into these challenges on top of all your other work. Thank you Celes.
I guess if I had to leave one comment as far as feedback on something I would like to see moving forward it would be perhaps a 21 day challenge where maybe a quote is written down and each person shares in the group what the quote means to them in their life and how motivational it is to them. Something like that. I enjoy finding new quotes, even from books. Or perhaps as a group we could take each day to find a positive, helpful, motivational quote to post about and why we enjoyed it. How it reflects on our every day lives.
You do an amazing job Celes. Thank you so much!!!!! Hope everyone enjoyed this challenge as much as I did.

Hey Netta, that’s actually an interesting idea regarding the quotes! I think it’ll very much compliment the new quotes section at PE too (not sure if you know about the new inspirational quotes section – it’s accessible from the navigation bar).

My only qualm about it is that it can quickly turn into a meta challenge (i.e. participants entering into analysis, thinking, mental mode) with little to no action, which is meant to be the crux of all PE challenges (transforming knowledge into action). The action would definitely have to be worked in. I’ll have a think about that for future challenges. Thanks for the suggestion angel!

Separately, thank you for your amazing participation during 21DPC! You have been a wonderful light to the other participants here in your sharing – both about yourself and to the others. Thank you, thank you, and thank YOU!!!

  3. How was 21DPC for you?

I enjoyed the challenge and I think it gave me some powerful insights into how I can stay very positive in my life giong forward.

On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?

7/10 Over the past month I feel like I have become much more positive. I see the 21DPC as a smaller part of several different things that were going on in my life though.

To be honest when I did the first couple days of the challenge I didn’t really get how these tasks were going to make me feel more positive. It was too simple. I think I was expecting something a little more systemic. It wasn’t until we were several days in that I really “got it” and understood that these questions could really direct my mind and emotions in a much more positive direction.

What did you like most about 21DPC?

I liked that the tasks were so manageable. I liked that I could easily do the tasks within a few minutes rather than an hour or two if they were much more involved.

    What did you like least?

I hardly replied at all to other members posts. That can take some time but I just didn’t make it a priority during this challenge like I may have in others. So I feel like I missed out on part of the challenge.

Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?

I’m in favor of doing an “anything goes” challenge next month. I will probably have my own personal challenge in the forums no matter what. It would be great to see a bunch of other people joining in and seeing a large group of us cultivating a new habit.

    • Hi Matt, I had the same feeling over the first few days – it seemed too simple :D but the final effect was great!

  4. 1. How was 21DPC for you? Very good! I really enjoyed the challenge. This is the first one I’ve actively participated on-line in. Before this, I was just a lurker. I wish I would have started sooner. While doing some of the other ones on my own was helpful, it wasn’t nearly as helpful as being a part of a group.

    2. On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score? 21DPC was very helpful to for me to make sure I was doing! It’s easy to read a book or an article and say, “Yes, I get that concept”, but a lot harder to actually practice it in daily life. It also helped me to have my best friend doing the challenge along with me, because we made each other accountable for doing it every day. I would highly encourage others to do future challenges with a friend, not only for the accountability, but you learn a lot together and can help each other apply it. It’s hard for me to give the 21DPC a score in itself, because it’s only one part of the changes I’ve been making in my life. I think the things I’m doing are all helpful for me. The PE web site as a whole has been extremely helpful to me in getting through the past year. I appreciate the challenges and the posts.

    3. What did you like most about 21DPC? Having to apply the things we talked about.

    4. What did you like least? I can’t think of anything I didn’t like. It was hard at times to keep up with the daily schedule of writing and doing, and sometimes things were a little late for me. But it was challenging, and that’s the purpose of these activities, so I wouldn’t want it to change.

    5. Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward? I can’t think of anything right now. I really appreciate all of the time you put in to the site, and for providing a central place for people trying to improve.

  5. I include in this round-up response some of what I wrote when I pondered the question on Day One.
I include this because this expresses how I truly feel about Happiness as a state of mind.

 As a state of mind, I am happy. That happiness is an inside job. It is a PROFOUND REMEMBERING of who, really, I AM. Happy on that level of being, a state of mind, my INNER world, is a perfect 10. Well, actually it would be off the charts really, wouldn’t it, since Higher Mind, One’s Highest Self, Spirit is perfect and just “IS.” In my INNER world, I am complete and whole in the awareness of being part of “Something Greater.” That is my Divine birthright, wherein I already have all the treasures, all the happiness within me. My Deepest and Greater Mind, my Highest Self is the foundation under my feet, it is in the air around me, it is the spirit of generosity that enfolds me. It is my very breath that animates my body. It is in my heart and soul, my spirit, my blood, my bones.
It is There where being essentially happy, deeply happy, (JOYOUS) is a given.

I feel whole and complete and perfectly happy right now in my Mind. I MUST NOT WAIT TO BE HAPPY! While I am in process of achieving goals that will improve the quality of my life, I am happy. My being happy does not depend on my reaching goals and dreams. As I reach those goals and dreams, I see life as sweeter for me, enjoying myself more fully as a human with a body here to fulfill a destiny, but nothing guarantees that reaching my goals and dreams will bring happiness with those achievements!

When I tap into the indwelling treasures, when I realize and when I focus on and manifest from That Place Within, that is the most important thing to remember. To realize, that it is all there, just waiting for me to call upon my Inner Wisdom. It is up to me to draw upon my treasure trove within and manifest my goals and dreams come true. Choosing to be happy taps me into even more happiness, which energizes me, and gives a good energy to anything I think or do! What I think about expands!

I am pursuing my goals and dreams, but I am not “pursuing” happiness. Happiness is not out “there” in the world. Happiness is the butterfly that has formed from the cocoon stage that I find myself being in, throughout many different stages of my life. Happiness is an inner awareness of the treasure trove within. The cocoon stage and the butterfly potential are both there, within. I am happy HERE and NOW in the eternal moment of the present moment, but in the meantime… I, in my acceptance of who, really, I am and what is true Reality, am truly happy, peaceful, content RIGHT NOW. In the meantime, I set goals, take action, visualize, and go within to realize those goals that I see as making my life sweeter, as well as those I am close with and with those I meet along life’s journey.

HAPPINESS IS WHEN WHAT YOU THINK, WHAT YOU SEE, AND WHAT YOU DO ARE IN HARMONY.

    HOW WAS 21DPC FOR YOU?

I feel that the 21DPC has brought to the surface deeper reasons why I have been unhappy (frustrated, confused, overwhelmed, etc). How did that happen?

    1. Thinking about and answering the questions about negativity, stressors, frustrations allowed putting the light of day onto certain issues I have been in process of working through, and letting a new wind of clarity sweep through them. LETTING GO of the negativity!!! This offered me new perspectives and new insights. Freeing up negativity from me allowed SO MUCH MORE SPACE for me to create, for fitness, for living life more fully and completely!!! FREEING up ENERGY for me to express myself with positivity, with patience, kindness, to actually feel compassion or understanding in instances where before I would be impatient or express anger. I actually feel more loving to others, and I think it may be because I feel more loving to myself. I also am starting to feel even more accepting of myself and others…. lovable, in fact, which is refreshing.

I am seeing more clearly how it came to be that, in the past, I was caught up in a web of self-sabotage…this triggered more writing sooo many pages in my journal…and I think that CLEARING OUT
the negativities, catching myself when I thought a negative thought/said something negative and reframed my thought…all this cleared up space to rip out the roots of unhealthy behavior patterns I have experienced in my life. Granted, I have been “working on/with myself for years, but I feel that when it’s time to wake up, it’ll happen, regardless.

    2. Also, others’ comments and replies to my comments opened up even further perspectives and insights. Sometimes, when reading others comments, I thought, “I could have written this!” :D Lots of “Ah-ha!” moments! Also, when I thought, “This could have been written for me!” I give BIG thank you to everyone for such wonderful sharing, sharing that helped me in SO many ways!!! I also loved making replies to others’ comments….just wish i could have written even more replies that I did. I STILL have not caught up replying before the challenge is officially closed!

HOW USEFUL WAS 21DPC IN HELPING ME IN MY PERSONAL GROWTH?
10/10 A perfect score in this challenge’s usefulness in helping me in my personal growth. I worked hard and gave my all to this challenge, and it has really given me so many insights and realizations and ideas, and energy that is freed up to be the best me. My attitude is really very positively “set” in place, like a “click” has taken place. I stay in the moment, pay attention to what I think and say and do in those moments, and do the best I can and let the rest GO!!!!!

WHAT DID YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT 21DPC?
The interaction with others is a great joy for me! This is a great group here. Great focus and I definitely experienced/witness the spirit of generosity running through the threads (us) of the greater tapestry (our positivity intention). And I believe that the group energy is such that WHEN ONE OF US MOVES FORWARD, somehow, WE ALL MOVE FORWARD. WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER…we definitely are helping each other whenever we can, and that is a beautiful thing! A lotta love has been expressed here on these pages of this wonderful space that is here all because of Celes and her VISION and devoting her life to PE…and all of us who serendipitously find this sacred place and choose to show up however that is for each one of us. I know, for me, PE is inspired, and Celes, the creator of PE, is an angel.
I receive soo much from the comments we all contribute…I already wrote about that in #2 in the last question.

WHAT DID YOU LIKE LEAST ABOUT 21DPC?
That it ends. Glad to feel a sense of completion, and I know this challenge, like the 21DFC, is establishing a habit that then continues to be practiced as part of my every day life, but I will miss THIS group, THIS energy, THIS challenge.
I look forward to experiencing/sharing other challenges with you all soon again. Or in other ways here at PE.

WHAT WOULD I LIKE TO SEE WITH PE MOVING FORWARD?
    Regarding Challenges…ideas…..
    Meditation/Inspiration
    Organization
    Cultivating good daily habits/a routine
    Creativity
Celebrating Life (what are favorite things to do, favorite people to be with, favorite places to visit, favorite activities, etc) and then including those favorite things in one’s life..
    Gratitude/appreciation
    Journaling

Honestly Celes, from the rich soil of your ideas, I know that the future of Challenges here at PE is very very bright!!!!!! :D
I do dearly love, enjoy, and appreciate all the different aspects of what PE offers!
And I have just barely scratched the surface!!! ;)
Deep and abiding gratitude to you for your inspired work!
It is obvious to me that every day your dream/vision is coming true!
PE is a vision realized and in the flow of actualizing personal excellence. :D

    • I’m also sad it’s ended :D It was so great to experience that time of positivity every day while participating in the challenge and reading everyone’s responses…

Hope to see you again on another challenge, your enthusiasm is absolutely contagious!

(And I second the creativity challenge :D I want one of those sooooo badly ^^ )

    • I posted a reply on this post earlier today…have no idea where it disappeared
Anyways you see Bette, how words flow out of you, I salute you dearest friend, a fine lady with a golden thread of words…
What I think about expands!..
You know I felt like a kid in a candy store when reading you post (#feel kinda deja vuey saying this, have I said the same before)…looking at the treasures in front of me, thoroughly confused on what to choose as the best…but I guess the best bit is what I’ve quoted here in this post…..it makes me flush with awe and its like am raised to a supreme point, its like nirvana, the most perfect way to end this challenge….on a high, a picture perfect affirmation/thought…..

  6. I enjoyed the Positivity Challenge – but have to admit that it lived up to its name as a ‘challenge’ – I felt that I really had to put aside the time to do it and focus on it and it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. And I put aside the time because I was motivated to do so, but it was something I really made myself do every day.

On a scale of 1 – 10, I think the positivity challenge has been 10/10 in helping my personal growth! I wrote yesterday about how far I have come since the beginning of the challenge, and it was kind of a catalyst for change in my life.

The thing I liked most about 21DPC was sharing the experience with the other participants and encouraging others and receiving encouragement in return. I also loved how it united people of all nationalities, all sharing the same goal to be positive :)

It’s really hard for me to answer about what I liked least – but if I had to say something it would be feeling like I had to write at the end of the day because of the day’s challenge and positive thing from the day… I usually finish work at 10.00pm and after work I don’t feel fresh enough to contemplate things very deeply – however I did manage to do it for the challenge but perhaps in future challenges the questions could be set up in a way that you can do them at any time of day? (I admit there was the option to add the positive thing for the day later that day… but it really is my working hours that made taking part in the challenge difficult on weekdays).

I would like to see maybe a book list of material we could read which would influence our lives… I’m not sure. there are a lot of things on PE that I really love already. just keep doing what you’re doing ;)

as for the April challenge – it sounds great! I’m going to have a think about which habit I would like to cultivate the most. There are a few but I’m going to think of one I can really put my mind to.

Would like to say a huge thank you to Celes and to everyone who has participated in 21DPC! Thank you for making it what it was, and thank you to those who sent me messages of encouragement. Love to you all xxx

  7. How was 21DPC for you?
It was a very positive experience – I did not really learn any new things , but I was much more aware of the daily events and feelings – whether positive or negative. I do read a lot, but sometimes it does not lead to any action or change. That’s the great thing with Celes’ challenges -the “DOING” and action part .

On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?
I’d say a 8-9 – There has been a change in the way I see things. I’ll know the real value in a few days – when the challenge is over – depending on whether I continue to live what I’ve been doing these past 21 days.

What did you like most about 21DPC?
The questions were very simple, but powerful enough to help us examine our life and mindset and approach to events and people. Negative events tend to monopolise attention, and the simple act of thinking of a positive event for the day brought up many positive things. Life seem brighter and I learned that there are many things I need to be grateful for.

    What did you like least?
Nothing about the challenge actually, but I do prefer interaction on the forums as it’s more easy to follow.

Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?
Any new idea/challenge from Celes would be great as always. I had missed the previous blogging challenge and would like something similar in the future. The habit challenge seems like a great idea. There are many habits that I would like to develop .e.g waking up early , journaling, reading.

Thanks Celes – you are such an angel.

A special thanks to everyone for their genuine and honest posts and for the interaction

Hey Ish! :D  Thank you so much for your feedback! Blogging – is there a reason why you would be interested in it? Do you have intentions to start a blog?

      • I am not sure, but I am very tempted. It’s still just a thought without any clear path. :)

  8. This was an excellent challenge. I like the way you asked us to shift the focus, e.g. what you can do about the negative thoughts that you carry.

I appreciated receiving the question of the day on the day before, because then I could think about my answers for a while. Otherwise, I tend to dash off a quick response that is less helpful to me, just so I will have it done.

I did not post a response very often but I thought about the questions even when I didn’t. I’ve said before, in comments on this or earlier challenges, I do a lot of caregiving, in addition to my work and home responsibilities, and it is not always possible to sit down at the computer. When I do, I prefer quality INput more than mediocre OUTput.

What I’d like to see next: I noticed a couple of suggestions that I thought would be interesting, about establishing new habits and about creativity. I know that creativity is not the focus of this blog but you bring a creative approach to your work and I think it would be useful for us to try a creative approach to problem-solving, building habits, or something else that we would like to change. Maybe a problem-solving challenge would be a good thing to try.

Hey VickiB, I very much appreciate your participation in 21DPC (among other challenges) even though you have other things on your plate to. Any comment from you is always a welcome, so don’t worry about feeling obligated to comment if/when you don’t have the time to do so. Thank you for being a part of the PE community.

  9. 1. How was 21DPC for you?

It’s inspiring to see other people out there who have similar problems. That I’m not the only one going through this. It always helps to see the other side of the story, or another view point. Surprisingly I’m not always correct… Reading other people’s post, you appreciate what you have, and really life is not that bad, when you take responsiblity for it.

    2. On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?

10/10. My life is my responsiblity. If I don’t do anything, then I should expect nothing as a result of my actions. I will try to assist, support, and encourage other people to be responsible, but in the end, they need to be responsible for their own life.

3.What did you like most about 21DPC?

The open forum. People can just write what ever they wanted, without the fear of judgement.

    4.What did you like least?

That this came to an end, but I know Celes will have something in April.

5.Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?

    I can’t think of anything.

    • Celes

Ken, I absolutely love your conviction that there will be something in store for April even though nothing is announced/confirmed yet.

Thank you for your earnest sharing during 21DPC. I feel like a lot of the participants were right there, living through your past 21 days with you, as you posted your updates day after day. I understand the situation is not yet over (regarding your wife), but at the same time you have taken a HUGE number of actions in the past 3 weeks which many literally never do in 3, 5, or even 10 years (they just sit on the problem or better still – pretend it doesn’t exist). I definitely hope you continue to be part of the ongoing challenges (I read that you and your best friend will be interested to join April’s Challenge, so let’s hope it does pull through eventually!).

  10. 1) How was 21DPC for you? I really enjoyed the days when I was able to participate. The act of answering the questions made me more grateful when I thought about positive things that happened to me during the day. Focusing on the positive definitely helps!

    2) On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?
I would give it an 8, because it was something simple and positive that made a difference in my day and small changes over a long period of time add up!

    3) What did you like most about 21DPC? My favorite thing about the challenge was thinking about positive things that happened to me during the day. I also enjoyed answering the questions when I was able to and I loved it when someone commented on something I said and I could engage and share with others.

    4) What did you like least? What I liked least was when there was a recommended action step that I felt resistance to. Sometimes I found that I derived significant benefit from answering the questions in the moment and engaging with others, but the action step was difficult to carry out. Maybe the action step could be a suggestion to take things a step further? Or maybe it already is just a suggestion….

    5) Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward? Hmm I’ll have to give this some thought–maybe creative visualization, blog growth, communicating emotions better with others, writing a book, thought tracking…

Thank you so much Celes, for providing this free platform for us to share and focus on self-improvement. I always love the people I meet in these challenges and taking a moment every day to focus on something beautiful and positive is priceless! Much love to everyone! :)

    ~Christina

    • As I stated on another person’s comment, I often find that the things I resist most are the areas I need most work on. I resist because it’s an area I generally find difficult to confront. Things that come really easy to me usually aren’t a problem area I need to focus on, I already feel comfortable about them… It’s the hard areas I resist that need work.

Which can be really frustrating… :) But resistance to me is a strong indicator for an area of improvement.

      • I completely agree Ffion, so the action suggestions are welcomed–just being honest about the feelings that go with it.

    • Hey Christina, I love the engaging interaction too. Found that the comments really trigger things within me. All the insights that everyone here has on any question, is all available, right here, and the wonderful energy that comes along with it. :D As I mentioned in round-up comments, I often get triggered by something someone says (written to anyone, doesn’t have to be to me), and I start to write in my journal, and all kinds on insights and new, broader perspectives emerge. “Ah-ha!” discoveries. It’s magical, and yet it is a very real and practical process for me. We are so fortunate to have PE as a place to come to and discover our buried treasures!!!!! :D
Here’s to positivity and its transforming energy!!! :D

      • Yes I feel the same way! One of the best parts of these challenges is reading the thoughts of others and meeting new people (even just virtually). This has been such a great experience and I look forward to seeing you on a future challenge! :)

  11. Thank you all i am grateful for this experience and just live your dreams and you will be happy and positive. Kisses

  12. Dear Celes:
I just had an idea for a future challenge. How about we challenge ourselve not to criticize anything for 21 days! A while back there was this challenge ( I have forgotten who the author was, sorry!) of wearing a bracelet in one hand and changing it to the other hand if you failed in your commitment not to critize or say negative things. I know it would be so hard for me; but a super challenge. I would love to have company and see how other people handle such compromise. I am not that critical and do try to say positive things. It is just I always have to much to say, and am working in keeping my comments to myself!

God bless you! Keep up challenging us!

    • My best friend challenged me that I can not say anything bad about someone. Every time I do I need to put a $1 in a bank. The bank will go to a charity of her choice. For the first few months I think I was going to be broke. But now I’m much better. I kind of feel sorry for the charity she picked because the donation is getting smaller and smaller every month.

    • I think that’s a really good idea :D Negative criticism and slagging off other people and gossip brings so much negativity into our lives… it’s something I dislike about myself when I catch myself doing it, but I’m getting better at suppressing the urge.

If you can’t say something nice… don’t say anything at all.

    • Celes
      Celes 13 years ago

Hey Anna, thanks for the suggestion! I definitely see the merit behind striving not to complain/criticize, but I personally do think that venting/airing out frustrations at times is important in living a happy life (cue: Principle #1 of How To Be Happy Guide). The other problem with such a challenge is that it will be very intangible, and I (objectively) foresee many participants to lose track/drop-off/slip-out of the challenge within the first few days.

It doesn’t mean that it’s not a possible idea; just airing out my top-line thoughts. Of course, in the end, I almost always create the challenges based on majority demand/interest (the challenges section is created with all of you in mind, if it’s not obvious by now), so whatever gets the majority vote is the direction I’ll go in. So feel free to keep your suggestions coming.

      • Thank you for repliying! You are so nice! It is only an idea, and I am certainly not gifted at organizing challenges the way you do, and have no idea what it would take for something like that to work. I agree that “venting” is an extraordinary therapy and we should do it more often. I was kind of referring to the people “ME!” who are constantly complaining and constantly finding error in someone else, and not realizing we do the very same thing! Hurray for you! I am sure you would come up with something wonderful. You always do!

  13. How was 21DPC for you?

it was great helpful for me,,totally replaced ma thought process…a kinda blood transfusion but with bit hypersensitive reactions….

On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?

in giving scores to ma happiness is really poor,,cz still external environment controls ma happiness…bt i have started a progress in ma life pushed up by this challenge…waiting for more pgms in future

What did you like most about 21DPC?
the positive response of people urged me to overlook ma own small problems, people ideas inspired me alot..and specially a program which is regular…helpful for developing habits..

    What did you like least?
for a positive energy, nothing is least liked….when brains meet.try to resolve problems we can change the world my our energy..can bring peace…

Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?

meditation experience sharing pgm,,,it takes a long time to develop a good enough meditation,,people can share each others experience..and what elso celes is already working alot with pretty good ideas…MAY GOD BLESS HER

    • I am so happy for you! I am glad you are moving forward. Nice work!

  14. JadePenguin 13 years ago

I don’t think it changed much for me (can’t change much from a 9/10 happiness score anyway :)). Mostly because thinking happy thoughts is not gonna change a financial reality.

But I think the structure was really well done – a mix of being grateful for the positive and overcoming the negative. Doing both is required to be truly happy. Also, there were different kinds of happiness – from friends, from favourite activities, families…

The tasks are also a good reminder that we should be more expressive with gratitude. People might not know just how much they mean to us and why. And it’s not something we should only do as part of a challenge but all the time, for every kind word or act :)

    • Jade, thinking happy thoughts WILL CHANGE your financial reality. I suggest you read about “law of attraction” it is incredible the power we have within us! I know I am at a crossroad right now, and perhaps not the ideal person to be giving advice. I just want to share that it did work for me in the past to an extent of labeling it incredible! It takes time, but it works! When you are positive you attract good things…as simple as that! Yet fantastic! Wish you the best!

      • JadePenguin 13 years ago

I’ve read about LoA, but I know it also means doing something yourself. And I’ve tried lots of options and somehow they’re all dead ends or endless roads (like the loan application process – been going on since November!!)

It’s almost as if the Universe had a different plan for me. As if it wanted me to be homeless and show the world just how ridiculous the current money-centred system is. I mean, I could probably sleep in the uni library and take showers at a friend’s place, so I wouldn’t have to quit my studies. And this would probably be sensational if people found out. But I’m sure I’d be a better help to the world if I could live a normal life. Right?

Do you think that having these thoughts could be causing my situation?

        • Things like the Law of Attraction seem to work for some people but when they tell you “just believe” or “just think happy thoughts” it really feels over-simplified and like they don’t understand your situation.

I understand that because my situation is complicated — not so much about money as about my husband’s health issues and our son’s mental health issues and some people say “just don’t let it get you down” and “it’s not your problem unless you make it your problem.”

Then there’s the advice to “look on the bright side”. In my case, “at least you have a husband”. In your case, maybe: “at least I can shower at a friend’s house!” (Be sure to say it in a perky voice!)

That kind of positive thinking is not likely to make things better either.

It sounds like you have a lot of resentment and resistance about your situation and other people’s suggestions to how to resolve it. If you are getting the kind of advice I have been getting, it’s no wonder! I don’t really want to offer advice to you, just some encouragement.

Here’s a thing to think about: your life has lots more in it than just your financial situation, and the happiness challenge might not change that situation but learning from it might help you be less miserable even if you are sleeping at the library, or whatever your finances lead you to do.

          • I find these Law of Attraction things are frequently quite misleading. They make it sound like just thinking happy thoughts is some sort of magic wand that’ll solve all your problems… It’s not.

Thinking happy thoughts does shift your reality, but you have to put in some work yourself too. What I feel is more true is that positive focus on your goals tends to open your mind to opportunities, in that sense I find the law of attraction true. It’s as though it sensitizes you for things that are to do with your goals, not matter how farfetched the connection and you start to see new ways of getting yourself towards them…

            • JadePenguin 13 years ago

Sadly, there aren’t too many ways to get money in the current economy where they’re doing cuts on just about everything. Shows how the system is completely preventing progress, because the Earth is still there, the houses, the resources – but people don’t have this “money” to “buy” it? What is this nonsense?

          • JadePenguin 13 years ago

Oh, so you’re saying instead of trying to make a bad thing look alright in some grotesque way, it’s better to focus on other areas of life that are going better. Because our life isn’t only money or only relationships or only career. And it’s natural for them to fluctuate – sometimes one area is lacking but some other time it might prosper again :)

            • Dear Jade….I can feel your pain and anger and why not your point of view as well. I can also feel an inmense PASSION coming from you! Vent, scream out your sorrow it’s not only natural but healthy. We are here for you and only want the best for you! Keep that great passion you have as that is what will make you solve your problem.
One of the things I benefitted from “LoA” (still love the term!) “the secret” and the likes, is learning how my “mood” attitude DID affect my outcomes.

A dum example was going to the convenience store and wondering why “I” got such terrible treatment from the employees….when I was buffing with anger, but thought I was keeping it to myself. I have learned that my attitudes are transperent! People have a tendency to stay away from problems, problematic people or situations. It is very unfair, but it’s the truth! Your problems will not go away by merely being positive. They will go away because YOU will make them go away with your attitude, your talents and your intelligence. By being positive you will attract positive things and outcomes. Being possitive and truly getting away from your anger will make you think clearly. You will find that you attract positive outcomes and people will be more willing to help you. You, I am sure with that fierce passion of yours, will come up with a solution.

Another thing I would like to add is that ever since I was a child (I’m in my 50’s) I have been hearing how terrible the economy is, how terrible people are becoming…how terrible, how terrible, how terrible! Thank God I did not pay attention and that I am the “rebelious” type. You will probably hate what I am about to say, specially during such a serious problem, but you make your own path! Cheer up, things will get better!

        • No dear not at all! It is only normal and healthy to asses reality. Feeling worried about your situation is an internal mechanism to find a way to improve. As a matter of fact I congratulate you, it seems you are willing to do what ever it takes. What an example of courage you are to me! I just wish I had your guts! Do not despair though, some times we REALLY strugle and there is no other name for it. It is more of keeping a positive attitude versus adversity; not giving up your dreams and ideals. I do think that you shouldn’t think the universe is against you! What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger!

My personal experience with “LoA” (Loved the term!) was sending my wish list to the universe, DOING NOTHING SPECIAL, except remaining positive and visualizing what I wanted….and Voila! It happened!

You have more power over your destiny than you think or feel right now. Keep positive, keep a positive attitude. Things will fix themselves.Do what you can and leave the rest to God. Applications don’t get filled out by themselves! Miracles do exist and we experience them every day. I mean Celes has been a little “miracle” to all of us right? Believe in yourself. Do not stop triying. Ask around, communicate your problem to everyone you can think of and accept all the help you can get…even if is not the “normality” you are aiming for! Never de ashamed to ask for help, there is always someone willing to do so!

When I was in college I had 2 friends who were brothers and strugling financially. I had no idea this was going on. I was not well off or in a position to help them financially, since I barely had enough for me. However after learning what they were going through and since I belonged to the dorm/cafeteria system. I told a few friends and we would “steal” or take out food for them, which of course wasn’t allowed!.. every day 3 times a day for the whole quarter! When we get together we still laugh about the situation and their still grateful. The next quarter they were able to get jobs and financial aid. I also want to share that they both became very very successful people. Some times I marble how can I be friends with such important CEO’s! Needles to say I am treated to dine with them in the best restaurants, the ones I couldn’t possibly afford!

So my very best for you. Also don’t forget that bad situations don’t last for ever. As difficult of a time or strugle you might be in, it will pass and it will get better. Send your “petitions” to the universe and stop worriying. Enjoy your youth!

  15. Hi Celes, and hello dear PErs….need I say that its great knowing you all, it just gives the resounding hope from within to see that so many of us a plowing towards our respective goals, so many of us a trying to make it count, so many of us share similar difficulties, similar highs, similar thoughts, similar wishes….it makes it look like all of us are out here, have dared to dream, all of us out here are born to win   …..
others may differ, but I often tend to think that when you open http://www.facebook.com and see that image of the world having people connected with small dotted lines, I often drift to thinking how http://www.personalexcellence.co is doing actually more where it comes to connecting…especially here at the challenges where the opportunities to share, connect, learn and grow are much more effective than anywhere else…
Here at the challenges when you see that so many of the young people are working towards Personal Excellence it makes you beam at the promise of the coming tomorrow and how a beautiful place the world would be with such motivated and driven to do right youth out there….

    1.How was 21DPC for you? Thought provoking….

2.On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score? Its been an 9/10…because as much as you’d like to make the pursuit of happiness a self conceited thing, external factors/people/conditions often hold a hand in your journey….though the 21 days have definitely helped me strengthen my mind-set and check important milestones in this journey to positivity and in the bigger picture, personal excellence…

3.What did you like most about 21DPC? The chance it gave me to see a different person in me..when now I look up to the mirror, I see a person simply looking back at me, it looks at me, I look through her(me)…the challenge actually revealed on this ladder of life’s ups, where I stand….

4.What did you like least? Nothing really, it seems that the issues with the site and having no post come up after you click on Post Comment and having all you work disappear: are sorted….so no complains, after all I fail to see someone not liking something whole-heartedly intended for their benefit…

5.Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward? Trust the genius of Celes to come up with something unique and life-changing yet again….

“If you take your life to be the punching bag to hit away all your woes, then dare to venture to the power of words….picking up the pen rather than nit-picking at the self works more then the latter”
    :D
    :D
    :D

    • What a heart filled comment! I am also pleasently surprised as how many people from so many different countries and backgrounds are triying to better themselves. I find it both an inspiration and a relief. With so much negativisim, selfishness and materialism going around in the world; it is wonderful to know that a “new niceness” and a genuine interest for making this world a better place is in store.
If we want to change our surroundings, we must begin with ourselves. I for one, find I critizice on others the very same things I do! I have also dicovered that when I change my attitude, people around me immediately change theirs. How fantastic to know and experiment this, no?

No doubt Celes is a true Angel. She has given us so much and expects nothing but our personal growth in return! HURRAY for Celes!

      • I second that, HURRAY for Celes
I often find the same happening to me, criticizing someone when I may be doing the same wrong at another time…again it boils down to how so many of us face the same challenges…
The only constant in this world is change….now whether this change is a positive one or a negative one is up to us. often this change is affected by the significant other person who affects our lives and changing our attitude in a way that people around us change theirs in a way that befits both sides is one of the simple yet beautiful forces that rises the exquisite fountains of life…..
Thank you for your feedback Anna

        • I’ll have to second that, frequently what annoys me about other people has a lot to reveal about my own shortcomings… It often helps me to question that feeling when I’m criticizing people or mad bout something they do, because often it’s something I’m also doing wrong that I’m consciously or subconsciously annoyed about…

So it’s kinda like using other people as a mirror… :)

      • High Five, Anna! I so agree with the “heart-filled comment” comment….that’s ASLO, all right, with her heart-filled comments.

Also, with regards to the “new niceness”…I love that term to describe what ASLO has referred to with the young folks’ interest/developing their personal best, and the bright tomorrow that is creating. I love thinking about the world being a more and more positive, loving, happy place, more and more every day. :D

Finally, when I react strongly to something, it very well may be that IS a mirror, and I need to ponder that a bit to see what I need to sort out. No question, that for the most part, my positive thinking/attitude can and often does greatly impact people around me.

And another finally, ;) , Celes IS an  With all the ways she expresses personal excellence, and her dedication, her focus on the best, and guiding us to be/live our best, giving her life to that, how can she not be an angel on earth!

It is a privilege to share with such wondrous beings who show up here with their hearts and minds to be and live their best life, who share so generously with others, and to have the likes of you, Celes, at the helm and in our midst is HEAVENLY, and a very, very special assignment, indeed. We are all on a mission together, yet individually, and when one of us advances, we all move forward. Now that is TRUE good fortune, and we are all finding the buried treasure when we come here!

Soak up all that positive love and energy that is coming your way all throughout the day and night today and every day, (and for oh so many moons to come….. :D :D :D ), Celes, and you will feel all that positive love and energy that I and countless others feel that emanates from you!!!

                • Oh God this comment thread made me laugh out loud. Bette you are wonderful :D I can’t believe how bubbly and happy you are

HURRAY for YOU, Anna! You have been so amazing to have taken up the 21-Day Positivity Challenge and pushed through to the very end. I love you for being a positive light that shines so brightly in our world.

        • Thank you dear precious and sweet beeing! What an extraordinary complement coming from an ANGEL!
I have followed, but not inscribed in the past 2 challenges! I was shy to write my feelings, shortcomings, failures and success. This particular challenge brought up the best in all of us. As days passed and I read such compelling stories, written with such candor and honesty, I got the guts to reply. So a STANDING OVATION to all, and particularly to YOU!

          • Anna,
I know what you mean about being shy to write stuff and put it “out there”….I went thru that in the last challenge when it came to sharing details of my weight loss story (my goodness, the sharing of that story was definitely a process that unearthed stuff for me to sort thru…having to do with the stigma/shame accompanying obesity, holding secrets, being super-sensitive about the # stating my weight, etc….).

Like you, reading others’ self-disclosing stories, jacked up my courage. And feeling like there were people here that were loving and accepting and supportive, I went for it! Glad I did! I did notice that after I posted, I had some mild reaction to revealing so much of myself, like am I okay if any one in the world sees this (especially those who know me) type thing. Came to realize that hey, it’s my story, it’s honest, it’s real, iIf putting it “out there” could help/helps one person, go for it.

Another piece is…I know the story…I share it in hopes it WILL help another/others….so writing it, recounting it, did not really unearth further beneficial revelations…but it was the WILLINGNESS, the SURRENDER to the reality and authenticity of the story, the ACTION of putting it “out there” that unearthed revelations, feelings that I had about who I am and who I am not.

I am in a process of getting to know myself gradually, the authentic me “self,” without masks and secrets and hidden agendas that even eluded me! (I was unaware of, in denial of, overwhelmed by certain patterns, certain deep-rooted habits and patterns of self-sabotage), and BEING HERE in that 21DFC challenge, in the collective spirit of that group, going thru the motions of doing the work, being open to do things that felt “weird” and were definitely out of my comfort zone, trusting that “I am in the right place at the right time”, trusting Celes, (although I had just recently had the unparalleled good fortune of meeting this brilliantly inspired angelwoman, a true visionary    )…

ALL these things brought me to a place of pulling out BY THE ROOT, the shame I felt being in a super-sized body and, despite countless attempts/”successes”, lived most all of my life in that body. I didn’t realize all this until now really, that that is all what really was set into motion. The process of that unrooting, that DEEP unrooting, began during the 21DFC, and continued throughout the challenge, and here I am, realating what happened. This is exciting stuff!!!!!

I don’t know why or how ALL THIS is popping out here on this note to you, Anna….I am just letting it flow…..
What initially called me here was to comment on how I too was shy to write/share certain things, and how I related to that kind of willingness…and how wonderful I think it is that you came forward and shared so much of yourself. YOU TOOK ACTION. And now here I am, with you, as a result of all that, (and Celes and PE being here in the first place!….we are all so fortunate…..   !!!!!!!!!) I find it AL very heart-warming and very touching. And very magical, really.

I continue to be in awe of what all is possible here on this site in this format and I’m sure I have just scratching the surface of what  Celes  offers us at this site.

I am so glad you are here, Anna, and I know that when we share, there are all kinds of blessings that occur, and that starts a chain reaction of further, countless blessings. That kind of ripple effect is SUCH A POSITIVE and so gladdening!!!!!

One just never knows what is gonna emerge from the mighty “pen,” when stirrings of the soul are urged forward from the secret places of the heart!!!!
Mighty happy surprises are before us, and within us and we all have so much to look forward to!!! :D

And you are so right….What a compliment COMING FROM AN ANGEL!!!!!!!      :D :D :D :D :D

    1. How was 21DPC for you?

    Awesome and Positive Experience

    2. On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?

10/10…I’ve made a huge jump forward in my ability to remain positive and share more positivity around me (friends, families and commenters on this blog like Ffion and You).

    3. What did you like most about 21DPC?

The Self-Reflection that dwells in 21DPC like the others PE challenges is what like the most. Bravo, Celes!!!

    4. What did you like least?
    Nothing

    5. Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?
Wht not creating more other challenges? Some examples: 21-day Habit Challenge, 21-day More Sleep Challenge, 21-Dax Exercising Challenge and so on and so forth, 21-day Talent Developing and so on.

    Keep Up, Angel!!!

    • I found many of your posts on this challenge to be highly inspiring and motivating. Your positivity really shines through :)
Keep up the fantastic attitude to life!

      Celes 13 years ago

Haha, 21-Day More Sleep Challenge! That’s a nice one Alban. :D

We have already had quite a few 21-day habit challenges in the past. 21-Day Fitness Challenge which just occurred last month, 21-Day Journaling Challenge, Meditation Challenge, etc. Next month will probably be a “21-Day [X Habit] Challenge” (as I mentioned in the post above), where [X Habit] is a wild card habit that participants pick of their own accord. I’m still waiting to hear what other participants have to say about this though before I decide whether to go ahead with that or not.

  17. 1.How was 21DPC for you?
This was my first challenge and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, because of the insights that I got from the posts that other participants put on the forum.

2.On a scale of 1-10, how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?
I would give it an 8 out of 10. I did not like a few of the questions. I thought the question about movies was too shallow for the challenge. I thought the question about parents was too painful for the challenge. (for me).

3.What did you like most about 21DPC?
Three things. First, I liked the idea of finding something positive about each day. Second, I really liked the concept of first listing negative thoughts, and then turning them around. Lastly, I liked reading the posts from other participants.

    4.What did you like least?
Two things. First, I would have liked to see more posts or replys from Celes, to help focus people in the comment forum. Celes had a few scattered comments, but not as many as I would have liked. Second, there were grammar errors in the challenge articles/questions. I find these distracting, and highly recommend to Celes that she seek input from an editor.

5.Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?
Yes. The articles have quality content and appearance, and are well organized and focused. However, most of the articles contain grammar errors. Some articles have 5 to 10 errors in one article. The same types of errors are repeated throughout all articles. To achieve “excellence”, the articles should be edited for grammar. As a professional editor, I offer to provide some examples along with suggested alternate wording and the applicable rule to follow in the future. Please email me if interested. [Note: I am not referring to informal comments on message boards. Typos or spelling errors are common on message boards. I am referring only to formal articles and books, which should be more polished. For example, for myself, I allow myself imperfection on emails and message boards, but not on formal reports at work.]

Other Note: The link is incorrect in today’s article for “feedback” (in the first paragraph). It links to an old challenge from last year.

Next Challenge: I like the idea of a challenge on habit building. I vote for each participant to pick their own habit, but the theme could suggest a habit to focus on, and participants could pick an alternate only if that habit did not appeal to them.

    • How nice of you to want to share your knowledge!

    • Celes
      Celes 13 years ago

Hi Susan, thanks for your feedback. I appreciate what you have to say.

The link for feedback is intentionally linked to an old challenge from last year. I often cross link to past articles and posts so readers can click and read for more information (if they do desire).

Regarding more posts/replies from me, I believe a small handful of participants might want to see that as well. One or two participants have commented the same thing in past challenge feedback. My reply below is to officially address this point so participants have an idea of what I have in mind for future challenges.

I think the ideal scenario for each challenge is one where I post/reply to each participant. However, my end vision for the challenges segment of PE is one where it (a) becomes automated (b) evolves into an open platform where participants get to interact and support each other, with minimal/little involvement from me, if at all.

One of the reasons is that if I were to be as heavily involved in every challenge as in the past, I would never be able to work on other areas of PE/the business (marketing, long-term planning, etc). For example, the new inspirational quotes section, the new manifestos and the new videos posted on Celes Show this month would probably never have seen the light of the day. It would also keep me from creating new plans to reach out to more people on PE (which is an ongoing process).

Designing the challenges, coming up with the tasks/post ideas, getting the material out on a timely basis, and moderating the challenge is already a fair amount of work in itself, and a heavier involvement would mean that I would run them a lot less frequently (say once in 6 months). To be honest, I actually do not gain monetarily or business-development-wise from running the challenges each month. The challenges do not bring in business revenue (since they are conducted for free), and believe it or not, they also do not increase the traffic of PE (which is linked to advertising revenue). In fact if anything, they often cause issues in the form of resource constraints, server outages and downtimes (which negatively affects business revenue, both in the form of ebook sales and advertising), because of the heavy commenting and comment notifications (via email) that occur during each challenge process. This month I had to upgrade to a new hosting plan, which was 75% increase from my past hosting plan, in order to accommodate for the increased resources which the challenges section uses.

I’m not saying money is my goal; I’m just sharing the mechanics which may not be obvious to the regular reader/participant. I would like participants to participate in future challenges because they sincerely want to participate and work on whatever habit/goal that is part of the challenge, and not because they are expecting certain involvement on my end (beyond organizing, designing, and putting the challenge together).

My intention for the challenges moving forward is to step back and let the participants take the spotlight and grow in their own space – which many like Ffion, ASLO, Bette, Asni, etc have marvelously done in 21DPC. I feel that as long as I’m heavily involved, it prevents the potential leaders in all of you from shining through. I see my role as a moderator, facilitating where needed, and ensuring everything runs smoothly without me being a “cog” in the system.

In the longer run I foresee having seasoned challenge alumni join in as moderators/facilitators, and possibly even lead the challenges. My end vision is to remove myself completely from the picture and have the challenges run without me. I may run one challenge every now and then, but definitely not all. At that point, PE may have grown to the point where we can run multiple challenges each month (targeted to specific audience groups). (I’ll always be running PE, this never changes until I die, which I suppose I will one day)

Separately, regarding the grammatical errors, I sincerely apologize if they disturb you. I’ll definitely look into them in the future as part of my personal growth process (I’m currently writing a new book and I already have plans to get a proof reader before the book goes to launch.).

But where PE is concerned, I have to be honest in that I have never regarded it as a “formal” or “professional” site with formal articles. It is still very much a personal site that has evolved into an online platform where everyone can gather, grow, and learn together – as a family. My English isn’t perfect (unfortunately) and it’s something I’m constantly working on. I think it used to be worse when PE first started; it has since improved over the years. I do my best to adhere to proper sentence structures, punctuation, spelling and grammar (as much as it doesn’t prevent the reader from getting value from the material), but outside of that I would like to dedicate my energy into creating more content. I fix mistakes as I see them or as readers point them out, but otherwise they are not something I’m particularly concerned with – especially if the issues concerned are not ridiculous like tYpInG lIkE tHis or chat speak lingo.

I hope this explanation helps you understand where I’m coming from, because I’m aware from your past comments that you have concerns with the grammatical errors on the site. I just want to say that it’s something I’m aware and am constantly working on; but at the same time it is not a priority for me to work on right away, like NOW, because I do not feel it is preventing readers from gaining value from the articles. Darren Rowse from Problogger.net is a very established blogger in the field whom I respect, and he has some of the most ridiculous sentence structure errors I’ve ever seen. But it has not prevented him from being one of the top bloggers in the world, because he has some very good stuff to offer to his readers and they continue to read his site for what he has to offer, not because of his proficiency in the English language.

      • Thank you for your thoughtful and positive response. I understand your position completely.

Regarding the limit to the amount of time you have to spend on challenges, I understand your limitations. I was reporting what I would have “liked”, rather than what I thought you would be able to realistically do. ;)

It was great, keept me busy with the question of the day and matters related to it ! Good reminder to stay possitvie !
On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?…………………..

What did you like most about 21DPC?……………………………
I think I liked the most what one little question, made my head spin and giving end resault of possitive tinking, and shearing with othes and I loved when I received a comment to my comment. ;)
What did you like least?……………….Cannot mention one thing, it was all very good experiance for me.

  19. How was 21DPC for you?

The 21DPC, like the 21DJC posed quite a few questions that helped me gain a lot of insight into my life and myself, the way I think and act, the ways I make myself happy and unhappy…

On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?

I think I’ll give it an 8. All in all I don’t think it’s actually made me more positive over the course of the 21 days, (which isn’t a terribly long time anyway) but it’s definitely set some starting points and given me some areas to explore further in the near future.

What did you like most about 21DPC?

The daily questions and positivity tasks :) Although most of all I think I enjoyed seeing all the gathered insight from all the different participants. It was so nice to spend a part of my day in such a wonderful atmosphere of positivity…

    What did you like least?

Can’t really think of anything… :) Maybe there could be some added strategies for how to continue building our positivity after the challenge? Although PE probably already offers many excellent articles there…

Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?

A creativity challenge? :D But maybe the habit month might help me with that, I want to turn my creativity into more of a habit, I’m quite talented creatively, but engage in my creativity far too little and it makes me sad, as I feel I’m wasting my potential… I’ve been thinking of trying to create my own little personal challenge for myself, but being in a community engaged in the same pursuit would probably help it along greatly…

    • Fiton; I did not have a chance to make a comment in your post. However I just want to let you know how much I enjoyed reading what you had to say. I think of you as one with a “bubly” personality. I find your comments fresh, sincere and above all happy! Thank you, you are a breath of fresh air!

      • Aw, thank you! :D Your comment just made my already pretty perfect day  Thank you soooooo very much

Hey Ffion – Okay, I hear you regarding your interest on the X Habit Challenge. If we do go ahead with that, it would be our honor if you are part of the challenge again. Your participation in 21DPC has been astounding!

I want take this chance to thank you for your amazing participants and comments in the past 21 days. Such well thought-out, conscious, reflective thoughts – telling of how conscious a person you are. I believe I speak for the other participants too when I say this.

By the way Ffion, do you remember how you came across PE? When did you find the site, and how did you stumble across it?

      • Oh wow, thank you so very much Celes :D That’s so wonderful to hear.
I think I will definitely try and participate, as I have realized that habits are a great part of what shapes my life, both in good and bad ways. It would be interesting to cultivate a nice positive habit :D At the moment I really want to make Creativity into a habit, it’s so fulfilling to me, but it so often gets drowned in the course of everyday life…

I stumbled across PE when I was interested in doing a fast and was trying to find people who had first-hand experience and had chronicled it somehow. Your in-depth fasting journal was of great interest to me, and since then I have completed a 10-day fast myself. During that 10 day fast you started the 21 Daily Journaling Challenge, that I participated in privately. (So it was a short time before that challenge I came across PE, around November possibly?)

Combined with the fast it helped me gain a lot of insight into some serious issues I had with food. The power of journaling on such insight-provoking questions really intrigued me and I started exploring more of PE. Then I decided to stick around :)

This time I wanted to participate in the challenge actively to get the full benefit :)

  20. How was 21DPC for you?
Overall a good challenge to go through because it determined me to seek the positive things in my life even when there would have seemed not to be any (I was simply overlooking them, taking them for granted).

On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?
I’ll give it a 10/10 without hesitation considering what I answered to the first question as reason. Plus, I loved to see (yet again) so many people getting involved and opening their hearts to each other, being open for discussions and nice to everyone.

What did you like most about 21DPC?
The fact that there were many participants – it really kept everything going and alive! :D

    What did you like least?
Hmm, can’t really think about something. Probably I would’ve liked to see Celes’s posts as well among those of the participants but I guess it’s not something to consider as a negative aspect given the fact that, after all, the target of those challenges are the PE readers.

Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?
I was going to say “another challenge” but you’ve already mentioned it, Celes. :) So to answer to the last part of this post, I think that a challenge where everyone picks a habit is a good idea (meaning the second option towards which you’re also inclined).

    • Celes
      Celes 13 years ago

Hey Lina, thank you for your feedback! :D And thanks for the interest on the X Habit Challenge – I’ll take that into consideration.

Regarding seeing my posts among the participants’, I hear you on that! Susan also shared the same feedback. I’ve shared my explanation here – so hopefully it helps to clarify the situation and helps you understand my intention for the challenges moving forward:
      https://personalexcellence.co/blog/21dpc-feedback/comment-page-1/#comment-28876

  21. 21 dpc was a good challenge. It gave me something positive to do in my quest for contentment and happiness. Most especially it was reading other peoples stories that inspired me. 5/10.because sometimes I needed answers that I could not get. I would answer some qns and remain wondering.otherwise some articles were eye openers and the quest for positivity felt good.it was nice to be part of the community.it can be improved, I have not figured out how

  22. Hi Celes!

21DPC was great for me! I enjoyed focusing on the positives in my life and getting support from others.

I would give it 8/10 in terms of how useful it has been. This is because I made some really great changes, in particular regarding relationships through showing appreciation, replacing negative thoughts with positive ones, realising I can persevere, that I can kick start positivity by being a positive person myself and sharing what I love with others, seeing the good in people and realising I am not alone in some of my negative thoughts and worries.

What I liked most were the tasks that involved other people, like telling a friend you appreciate them or doing something nice for your parents. The parents one in particular was great as once I got over my urge to criticise them I realised how great they really are!

What I liked least was sifting through pages trying to find my old comments. This is a minor issue but a bit time consuming. Also, the times were of course very different from UK times so it was hard to understand how long ago a comment had been posted. Another minor issue though!

Moving forward I would love to see a meditation habit challenge! Or a general habit one in which I could get into meditation. Other topics of interest are nutrition, parenting and creativity.

Thanks Celes for this wonderful challenge! Thank you to everyone who has supported me on here, Celes, Asni, Jo, Bette, P. Callychurn, Leslie, Squiggle and everyone else who has commented on my responses! Also, thanks to EVERYONE for sharing your responses, it has been so valuable to see what different people say and has made me see things from different perspectives :) See you next time!

Hey Roses – thank you so much for your feedback! What kind of changes would have to be made for you to give it a 10/10?

      • You’re welcome Celes :) A quick and easy way of seeing all of your past comments in one place would be good. Also, sometimes I found the text a bit lengthy and wordy and it seems it could be a little bit more concise. I think it’s just that I am very busy and felt I didn’t have the time to read everyone’s posts and respond to some of them as much as I’d like, so the 8/10 is also for my personal situation. Hope that helps!

        • Celes
          Celes 13 years ago

Hey Roses, thanks for your response! Text being lengthy – are you referring to the daily challenge posts or the participants’ comments?

I hear you regarding having past comments in one place. It is something I want to see myself too, but unfortunately it’s fundamentally linked with the way the WordPress system is structured and nothing I can do on the front end. I’ve tried looking for plugins and other commenting systems in the past but none of them have the kind of functionality I’m looking for.

          • Hi Celes, yes I found sometimes the text in the posts was a bit lengthy. But that’s really just nitpicking, just something I picked up on a couple of times. That’s a shame about the commenting system. Some people might have already thought of this but I copied and pasted all my comments as well as the posts in the correct order into a 50 page word document. It might be an idea to recommend people start copying and pasting as they go if they would like to have all of their answers in one place. Perhaps some sort of template? I don’t know, just an idea, and as I said, many probably did this already, I just didn’t think of it till the end! :)

            • Celes
              Celes 13 years ago

Hey Roses! Which “posts” are you referring to – the daily challenge task posts? Because the posts in 21DPC have literally been the shortest challenge posts ever in the history of PE Challenges. o_O Every day was literally just a positivity question, a positivity task, and an end-of-day reflection note. (I’m just trying to understand what you’re referring to because I’m confused at the moment.)

              • Yes the daily challenge task posts. there were a couple of times where there were several titles, lists and a picture and for some reason I found it took me a little while to scan the post for the actual task. Sometimes I had time to read the introductory paragraph, sometimes not.

                • Celes
                  Celes 13 years ago

Interesting – Perhaps that has more to do with the way the posts were structured then. It was a little non-intuitive for 21DPC, because of the positivity question/positivity task/positive reflection-of-the-day 3-in-one format. I’ll bear that in mind for future 21DPCs (if any).

                  Thanks for your feedback, Rose!

                • No problem Celes. I am feeling super positive, I really think the 21 days have made me a more positive person! These are just minor things I could think of when pushed so please know that you are doing an amazing job! Thanks so much! xxx

                • Just want to say thank YOU Roses for your comments and encouragement too :) all the best!! x

                • No problem Jo! All the best on your teaching journey! xxx

  23. 1. How was 21DPC for you?
It was inspiring. It was a good opportunity to learn more about myself, reflect about some important aspects of happiness and also read and learn from interesting people.

    2. On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?
I give it a 6, since I have already covered many of the questions in the past, but it was still very useful cause I remembered some of them and also answered new interesting questions!

    3. What did you like most about 21DPC?
It was nice to read some other people experiences and even find that your circumstances are not so different at all. Good energy and a desire to grow and become a better human being. That’s just awesome!!!

    4. What did you like least?
I think it was somewhat hard to follow every day. Some days I just finished my job, went to the gym, came back home and when I saw my watch it was already 10pm, and considering some other personal projects that I have, did not have much time available. (Just a personal experience though). At least I could catch up later and I completed the entire challenge.

    5. Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?
More challenges and also useful content as so far Celes has always provided  Also because this is a good place to meet like-minded people, it will be interesting to have within the forum some areas by location, then maybe people can meet in person and make new positive friends ;)

    Thanks Celes!
    Take Care

Hi Diana, thanks for your feedback! What exactly is kind of output you are looking for to give a score of 10/10?

      • Hi Celes. I think the challenge was very good, I just gave it 6 based on my very personal situation, because many of the questions I had already covered before from different sources/books I have read before and even during some coaching sessions that I recently had. If I had done it maybe 1 year ago, I would have given 9 or 10 because of the impact of the new information and the value! But this score is not for the challenge itself, this score is more for what useful it was for me based on my previous knowledge.
        Thanks Celes :)

Hey Diana, no problem! Thank you so much for your response – I appreciate it. :D It helps me to create a better challenge which will be more impactful for all of you in the future.

  24. Great experience & Keep up the nice work!

  25. How was 21DPC for you?

It was very encouraging, inspiring and engaging.

On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?

    7. I learned more about myself in the process as well as some new ideas about positivity that I have not focused on.

What did you like most about 21DPC?

The questions. They lead me to look more deeply into myself and recognize some things that I have or have not done to be a happy/positive person. Also, the repeating positivity question allows me to focus more on the positive side of things.

    What did you like least?

Some of the questions are rather difficult to answer as I have not really look in that aspect of my life. But hey, this allows me learn more about myself.

A few questions, like ‘what makes you laugh/smile?’ and ‘what is your favorite pastime?’, are somewhat similar. I think that they can be grouped together as one question for a day, rather than spreading out for 3 days.

Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?

A habits challenge will be great! I prefer an anything-goes habit challenge as everyone can take part and develop a habit they want to have. But if I were to vote for a specific one, I choose a reading challenge!
    Or a learning challenge!

    1.How was 21DPC for you?

Of course its was very new, positive experience for me. I really enjoyed doing that and it made me to think about few new things in a new way which i never done before :)

2.On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?

I can give a rating of 6 for me as i feel i still to go a long way in my personal growth. I can rather say that only becuase of this 21 DPC only i have made conscious effort to look into myself :)

3.What did you like most about 21DPC?

All the questions in this challenge. I cannot tell anything specific as all the questions were thought provoking and good.

    4.What did you like least?

There is nothing to mention for this. But i personally felt that few questions in this challenge was similar to the quesitons in older challenges.

5.Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?

As a married woman, i feel at times unlike you i was not abel to spend time for me, myself alone as i will be always surrounded my few people always. This leads to lack of time for my personal growth like spending time for meditation (i was doing this regularly before marriage, but now i hardly do that as always TV or some sound will be coming in my so not able to sit peacefully for this)
So i request you to make a new challenge that which is really helpful in personal development of those who are in family life (as almost all of our readers are married and strugling to find time between family and work)

Challenge of new habit is also welcoming one :)

PS: Sorry right now i don’t have any idea for the challenge to suggest to you for s.no # 5. If i come up with any idea, for sure i will suggest. Pls consider my request seriously as i might be helpfull for lot of peolple. Pls think about the same.

  27. 1. How was 21DPC for you?

I really enjoyed this challenge. It was very thought-provoking and made me appreciate everything around me each day.

    2. On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?

I would give 21DPC a 9/10. I really enjoyed most of the questions each day as it got me thinking about what really matters in life.

    3. What did you like most about 21DPC?

I loved the positive atmosphere from participants, and following certain people’s stories as each day went by. Some of the issues being addressed by others really made me appreciate my own life. I also really liked listing the positive things from each day, once I realized it was part of the challenge (oops!) :)

    4. What did you like least?

Well, a couple of the questions surprisingly upset me – especially the one about our parents, although this wasn’t really anyone’s fault – just personal issues I have tried to ignore that were suddenly unavoidable. The night I read that one (Day 5), it pretty much brought me to tears, so I couldn’t even answer it until the next day. I suppose this is probably a good thing in retrospect as it made me really think about these issues, but it definitely killed my *positive* vibe for the day.

Also, for whatever reason, I was one of those people who completely missed the daily task and “positive things” part of the challenges for a couple days. I was shocked I missed it because I usually read everything through before I reply. I think I was distracted by the main question in big bold letters at the top of the post, and just didn’t see that there was more. Also, that one big square advertisement at the beginning of each post seems to be in a weird spot, and ruins the flow of the text for me. That might be why I also missed the latter part of the post as it was after the ad. I know the ads are necessary though, so I’ll try not to complain too much. :)

    5. Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?

I’d love to see a blogging challenge again at some point, as I missed the one last year. I like the habit cultivating idea, with it being open to choose our own habit (I would probably pick drawing daily as I have been slacking a lot lately creatively).

Other than that, just keep doing what you’re doing Celes. You are amazing!! :D

    • I find that for me often the questions with the most intense negative reactions are the ones most important for me… :(
They indicate issues that need working through, that I’ve been avoiding and the questions bring that fact to light, whether I like it or not. It can kill your positivity for the moment, but in the end I think it’s best to work through the issues, as part of happiness is figuring out what detracts from your happiness and working on that area…

      • Thanks Ffion, yes I definitely know what you mean. With most questions, I can go through the process and figure out why I feel the way I do, and then work towards a solution. Unfortunately, the issue with my parents cannot be fixed. I know exactly why I feel the way I do, what caused it, and I have tried everything I can think of for a resolution, but things will simply never be the way they used to be. This upsets me. It’s not Celes’ question really, but the fact that I can’t do anything about it. :(

  28. 1.- How was 21DPC for you?

    Inspiring.

2.- On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?

An 8, because I still have a long way to go.

3.- What did you like most about 21DPC?

The amazingly heart felted, sincere honest responses. It was such a treat!

4.- What did you like least?
Nothing really, perhaps finding difficult to answer some of the questions.

5.- Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?

I would like to learn more on the benefits of meditating and how exactly it is helping the PE community.

My sincere gratitude Celes for your time and for your advice on most anything.

    • Celes: I think I missed question number 2. The Positive course/challenge WAS EXCELLENT! I DON’T THINK IT COULD BE IMPROVED! It is just how I applied it on me and the realization I still have a lot of work to do!. My very best always. You are defenitevely EXCELLENT! I devaur all that you write! Your articles have helped me tremendously. God bless you!

  29. 1. How was 21DPC for you?

21DPC was great for me when I was actively participating. About halfway through, some things came up in my life where I couldn’t get to a computer/didn’t have time to write things down, so I’m afraid I let the ball drop, but the challenge itself was great for helping me re-evaluate my life and values, which I needed to do.

    2. On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?

Overall I’d give my personal score an 7.5. I give it this score because I was not totally committed to the challenge. But I think the program as a whole if you followed it all the way through rates about 9.5, there’s always room for improvement, but I really liked the structure of the questions and how we examined both what makes us happy AND what makes us unhappy so we could grow from it.

    3. What did you like most about 21DPC?

Like I said above, I liked how the questions helped us examine every facet of our lives and mindsets, not just what we might be proud of.

    4. What did you like least?

I really liked the structure of the challenge as a whole and thought not a lot was lacking. I would have liked to have seen even more questions, and perhaps condensing some of the two day questions into one day, but that’s just me nit-picking.

    5. Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?

I’d like to see this challenge again in the future, it’s been one of my favourites along with the journaling challenge. Keep up the great work Celes!

  30. How was 21DPC for you? It was a positive experience for me. I learned a few new things I did not know and also learned to appreciate what I have.

On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is most useful and 1 is not useful at all), how useful has 21DPC been in helping you in your personal growth? Why did you give that score?
I think I’d rate it on the scale of 7~8. I feel like I could still grow more into a positive person. Though the questions help me realize what I need help with, it’s still up to me to take action (I’m a laid back person, so I tend to procrastinate a little…haha)

What did you like most about 21DPC?
I really liked the questions and other user’s responses. It was interesting to read all the other responses and learn from each other

    What did you like least?
Well, it was really on my own part. I missed a few days of questions and didn’t get the chance to answer and post them here. Other than that, nothing~

Anything you would like to see at PE moving forward?
I’m fine with whatever challenge Cele gives us ;). The habit challenge seems really interesting! I support the idea
