21DPC Day 20 – Who are 3 Positive People You Can Spend More Time With?

This is Day 20 of the 21-Day Positivity Challenge held in March 2012, where we work on being positive for 21 days. The challenge is now over but you can do the tasks in your own time. Visit the overview page for all the challenge tasks.

Happy girl in the field

21DPC Day 20 Question

Who do you spend most of your time with every day? Do you know the people hang out with have a direct effect on your level of consciousness? (Read: You Are The Average Of The 5 People You Spend The Most Time With.)

Hence, it is important to be conscious of who you choose to be around. The more you hang out with positive, conscious, empowering people, the more positive, conscious, and empowered you will be (and from you to them, too).

This leads to today’s positivity question:

Who are 3 Positive People You Can Spend More Time With?

Average of 5 people

It’s now the second last day of 21DPC! Stay tuned for the last task for the challenge tomorrow! :) It will not be the final post for the challenge though – we will have a round-up post after tomorrow’s task.

Your Task:

  1. Reflect and answer today’s question(s). Write as few or as many words as needed to fully express yourself.
  2. Reach out to the 3 people you listed.
    1. Send them an email, give them a call, drop them a facebook or Twitter message, or even better still, talk to them in person if possible.
    2. Say a simple hello and check how they have been doing. Arrange for a lunch, dinner, or gathering together in the near future.
    3. Moving forward, identify opportunities where you can spend more time with the people you listed.
  3. Identify at least one positive thing about your day. It may be something small or something big – as long as you deem it as something positive, it counts. If you have more than 1 thing to share, then by all means, go for it!

Share Your Answers!

After you are done, share your answers in the comments area.

If you’re doing this at the start of the day, you can post your answer for today’s question first, then work on your positivity task throughout the day, then return at the end of the day to share your results for your positivity task and your end-of-day positive reflection.

Check out other participants’ answers. Pick 1-2 participants’ answers and make a meaningful reply to them. Engage in the discussions. This is a group course, so let’s support each other in these 21 days!

Who are three positive people I could spend more time with?

    1. Madison. Her and I are “new” friends, but I adore her! She is so loving and sweet, and just plain awesome. We both say we need to spend more time together, and we have both made more of an effort do so. She is my nearest and dearest friend I’ve met since I moved to this new city I’m living in!

    2. Amanda. She is my cousin and best friend, but we live 800 miles apart. So it’s hard to spend time with her. She has had a VERY rough life….just in the past couple of years, she’s lost her mom, dad and brother. She has no family left. She’s battle drug addiction, abusive relationships and severe depression. Just knowing what she’s gone through and seeing her fight to keep her chin up, is inspiring. I know that if I’ve had gone through what she has gone through, it’d be hard for me to just get out of bed in the morning. But here she is, happily married, sober, working at a job that she loves, helping people. She never talks bad about or to anyone, she’s not judgmental, and always has something positive to say. That’s got to be hard! I may not be able to see her much, but I could make an effort to reach out to her more…call or email her. I think I’ll do that now!

    3. Kelley. She is a work friend of mine and we have grown close over the past few months. We have a lot of fun together when we hang out, and I could see our friendship growing. I’d love to get to know her more and spend more time with her.

On positive thing about my day: A cousin of mine is going through a really hard time right now. She got married last month and her husband just left yesterday (her birthday) for basic training for the Navy. He’ll be gone for 6 months, and she is having a hard time handling it (who wouldn’t?). I made her a scrapbook and some other things and sent them to her in a “care package” to hopefully help her get through the next couple of months. She called me this morning crying and thanking me, and letting me know how much I helped her already. I just love it when something small that I do touches somebody so much. It makes my day just as much as theirs! I was glad to get that phone call this morning.

  3. My best friend. A daily habit now, I can’t remember the last time we didn’t talk to each other for more than a day. I enjoy the sharing, inspiration, motivating each other, and just talking.

My best friend from high school. Just sent her a text. We still talk now and then, but she’s getting ready to move back home this summer. Can’t wait! Lots of opportunities there for the future.

A colleague. She’s very happy and has a positive outlook on life. A good person to hang out with at work. We went to lunch today.

Positive things for today: We had a guest at my work meeting this morning: a very positive person, who is going to help us with an upcoming project at work. I had some reading to do at work, so I went outside to read and enjoy the great weather (thanks to my best friend for the suggestion!).

  4. I also don’t know who I can replace in my life. I think the person that most needs to be replaced since today I realised that I am a typical energy vampire and ooze negativity. I have to replace myself with a happy positive person if I’m going to have the peace and happiness I desire in life. I love you Karungi! Thts me..I’m learning to say I love u to me.
Positive thing is I have break tomoro! No sch! Yippee

  5. Who are 3 positive people I can spend more time with?

 (1) My colleague Faith (2) My God-sis Steph (3) God

 (1) Chatted with my colleague Faith over instant messenger (2) Told my God-sis how much I appreciated her for being there on my spiritual journey to become a Catholic (3) Thanked God for all the abundance I have in life right now

;) Moving forward (1) I would be catching a movie with my colleague Faith (2) I would be going for an overseas vacation with my God-sis (3) I would be praying to God whenever I can

 The one positive thing about my day is to receive an uplifting text from a friend.

  6. My Best Friend, although we have around 1500 miles between us, we get to talk everyday via email or IM, and the phone when we are having a really bad day. I do wish the distance was not there, especially when she needs a good hug on those bad days. But I just realized she hasn’t had those days recently. Which is a good thing.

The next two are my good friends who are local. We have been spending more time together. We when to hit golf balls last Friday night. We might go again this coming Friday. We are going to plan more guys night out, like dinner and cigar lounge once a month. The weather is starting to get warm so a group of our other friends will want to start riding our motorcycles on the weekends.

Positive thing for today: The day just started so I will check back in. But so far, I had an early morning meeting that went fine, and finished early. Early enough to work on my Day 20 post.

    • I just noticed something that is not a positive! We are on day 20….. Just one more day.

  7. 3 positive people in my life; my father, my husband, my brother, my 2 best friends, so more than two..Am I lucky or what:)

apart from them I have one cousin who is quite positive and works alot for self development and I am proud of her becouse she is about to complete her postgraduate degree in such a busy working schedule at the same time. Today we had a long phone talk with her and I told her also that I am proud of her.

We already agreed we should catch up face to face so next week I will make a plan to meet them
I will already go and visit my father and mother together with my brother so task will be done
My 2 friends I will meet tomorrow
And my lovely husband is about to arrive home, I will give him a big kiss for lightening up my life with positivity

Positive thing for today- when I ready the posts I became aware that I already made my first “morning page” this morning, so well done for myself. I guess this helped me to do a big cleaning at home, throwing away the things in no use for long time and tidying up the wardrobes and drawers. Normally I would be exhausted but I feel quite well!
And the phone talk with my cousin was so encouraging!

  8. This day started off with fantastic workout :) So that will be one of positive things about it.

As for today’s question….First person is my mother, very positive and inspirational women, second are some of my friends i have neglected and third i should reach out to some new people who have similar goals like personal growth.

  9. I have to confess that today’s post made me stare at the screen for a few minutes. I’ve always known I don’t have many friends (I prefer to keep in touch with few people while really getting involved in the friendship instead of making simple acquaintances) but even those whom I have aren’t the positive type, rather neutral – they neither complain all the time, nor do they exude happiness and serenity. It’s strange that we’re all so young and yet we seem to have already given up big dreams or even trying to live our age. Strange and sad. My friends always say I talk too much and that they can’t understand how come I’m so optimist and calm in most cases when they would be stressed/annoyed. I spend most of my time with them, however, and with my parents (but my parents are already thinking that their lives have passed and they always have a melancholic light in their eyes when they think about it or say it out loud). Hmm, I can’t think of 3 people. I feel like I’ve failed today’s task, as if I’m a student in school and I can’t hand in my homework.

Positive thing for today: The weather is beautiful! Planning to go out for a walk later on :)

    • Lina, I just wanted to say that don’t feel like you have failed the task: because you have reflected on the question, examined your thoughts and answered with honesty. If you don’t know any one positive yet, it will come in the future and you will know when you have found a friend or someone in your life who lifts you up and helps you to be the best version of yourself. The positive people I chose are not people who are never sad, angry, and who never complain (far from it!) but they are people who support me, encourage me, and lift me up when I’m in their company. You’ll find some people in your life who do the same things for you, I’m sure of it :)
      xxx

  10. My childhood friend, my previous coworker and friend, and my son. One friend is far away, but I could call more often.

Positive thing about today, I can walk without pain today. (Most days, something hurts).

  11. 3 friends called E, I and V.

    E. is brilliant at the being grateful and seeing the wonder in everything, plus she’s got a great sense of humour.

    I. is inspirational – she is 80 yet has so much energy. She does her morning pages daily, paints, knits, sculpts, is very knowledgeable about crystals and astrology and is great fun.

    V. is my oldest friend and is extremely kind and very creative.

And I am so lucky because I am seeing all three of them today. Each fortnight, on a Tuesday afternoon, we do crochet together. I am just learning and have only just been able to join in these sessions as I am now retired. It’s great having a good crochet session and a good cackle. I. calls our group the Happy Hookers!

Another positive thing today – I bought myself a lovely turquoise coloured top this morning and, though I say so myself, I look pretty darn good in it.

And another positive thing – I have just seen toad spawn in our pond. We have frog spawn each year but this is the first time, in the 10 years we have lived in our home, that we have toad spawn too. I feel so proud – like I’m a real conservationist, even though it’s nothing to do with me!

    • Aw, sounds like some lovely friends you have there :) Positive creative people are great to be around. I’ve been doing morning pages for about 8-9 weeks now too, they’re really great.

  12. My Aunt
    My Grandma
    My best friend.
    ?????? oh dear…now what????

    • Why the “now what”? :) Do you spend all your time together already? :)

  13. * My sisters – I see them every weekend.
    * My supervisor – I see her once a month. Sent her an email with an inspirational quotation which she always like to receive.
    * My classmates at the course I’m taking. I’ll be seeing two of them tonight. The rest I will see on Saturday.

Identify at least one positive thing about your day
    * Had delicious fresh fruit juice (green apples, celery and cucumber).
    * Today’s weather is just nice, not too hot.
    * Looking forward to tonight’s outing with my two classmates.

    • Sometimes I find myself wondering how would it be if I had brothers or sisters. As an only child, I’ve never had to share my toys or my sweets and so on, but I used to ask mom to play with me when I couldn’t go outside (because of bad weather, for example) and those would be the only moments when I would think about having siblings. I believe that living and growing up with a brother or a sister shapes our characters in different ways and influences the way we see the world compared to cases in which we’d be the only children.

  14. 1. My parents. They can always cheer me up and make me see the good in every situation.

    2. I want to say my partner, but we spend lots of time together as it is :) So – I think I’ll have to go for a friend of mine I used to live with. I’m seeing her at the weekend though

    3. My oldest friend from home. We’ve known each other for over 20 years and although we’re not in close contact as often now, it’s still so lovely to see her.

I’ll send some messages out :)

Positive thing about today: Well, it’s only just started for me, but one of the students I’m going to be interviewing for my research has just got back to me fixing a time later this afternoon :) Also, my mum texted me yesterday about the thank-you letter I left for her and Dad when I visited them at the weekend. They were both really touched

  15. Phew, sorry for disappearing from the challenge for the last few days without a trace, I was buried until finals work… I presented my work on Friday and got a great mark for it. Plus someone’s already asked if I want to apply to their agency :) I’ve now officially finished my Graphics Design course. I’m so glad.

Hm… three positive friends I can spend more time with… I’ve actually been thinking about this recently.

The main person is my boyfriend who’s the most positive person I know.
One would be M. who is an incredibly positive, supportive and creative person that I’ve just re-established contact with.
Another would be J. who is also very positive and supportive and a great laugh.

They’re all people that make me feel good being around them and I never regret seeing them. I want to try and spend more time with them in future.

Already contacted J yesterday, also sent M. a message, she hasn’t replied yet, and I spend lots of time with my boyfriend anyway. :)

    Positive things:

    Finished my Graphics Design Course
One Agency has asked me to introduce myself to them…
Went for a nice long walk yesterday and today…
Am looking forward to my breakfast and a nice cup of tea…
NO TO-DO LIST FOR TODAY. First time in ages. I’m just going to mooch around and enjoy myself.:D

    • Congratulations Ffion, for completing your course and very well done for getting a great mark for your presentation. You must be feeling pretty good today!!

      • I’m in two minds at the moment :) I’m really glad it’s over, but I feel sort of drained now after all the stress have dropped off. But I’m definitely glad it’s over and done and that I got such a great grade.

I’m a bit insecure about the future, seeing as I know have to decide if and where to apply to agencies, and the work has to be able to fit in with my Feldenkrais Training course that I’ve signed up for, because that is my priority at the moment.

Thank you for your kind comment :D

  16. Mum – chat every week as we are in different countries

My best childhood friend – we tried to call each other every fortnight as we are in different state

A close friend to me – we do call or sms each other very often.

Positive thing, I was not that stress and manage to get heaps done at work..

My Mother  , My one and only friend  , and my sweet soulmate

  18. 3 positive persons are in my life…
    1-my mom
    2-my husband
    3-my friend shafi
they filled my life with encouragement, positive energy & love.
i sent a love msg to all of them ..now waiting for reply..
    positivity of the day
i recieved first reply from my freind shafi ..she also said i love you too. :D

  19. 1. My wonderful friend Naomi.
    2. My friend Dana
    3. My friend Josephine

Positive: they’re all alive and well.

  20. 3 positive people I could spend more time with…
    1.
Celes – I said this a long time back, that Celes, merely looking at how you shape your life, strive to shape ours and have achieved all that at such a young age amazes me, fill me with positivity and with the vigour try as hard and more importantly try as sincerely as possible to emulate her…it might just remain a wish, to spend more time with her, since we are far apart though getting a chance to meet her would be an awesome opportunity!
2.My kids – Both my wonderful kids who have been such flow of positive energy into my life especially over the last few years. Yes we me argue at times, lose the ever loose tempers but I truly love them and I know they love me in the same way, maybe much, much more!
3.My aunt – There was a brief period of my life when I was brought up by my aunt, she taught me the importance of education, religion and the way of life. I owe a lot to her and see her as a symbol of positivity cos after all positive persons do best when they invoke positive traits in you, right?

Tuesday it is….just the start of the day yet…am sure torrents of positive vibes and events are going to flow into my life and take me with their turbulent drive towards the goals I seek :D :D

3 Positive People whom i can spend more time :

My Husband – He is full of a positive guy. At times due to his work pressure he gets stressed out. Otherwise i admire him a lott and love to spend time with him

Few of my friends who are very close to me from my college days. I love to hang out with them and spent lot of time with them, but since everybody is married all friends are at one place or either. Hence as part of reflection of today’s question i am planning to call one of my old friend :)

My mom – I love her a lottt. Even though because of situational problems and other stress from my dad still she is strong and facing all the problems alone :( I admire this courage and positive attitude towards everyone and every tough situation :)

    Positive for the day :

Reached office much early !!! :P Did Yoga practise and breathing excercise morning…:)

  22. This answer may be somewhat difficult because the positive people that come to mind live in another state.
    1. The first person that come to mind is my long time friend April. We don’t get to see each other very often. She is not out of state, but in another county and her situation is a lot like mine. She can see the positives to things and help me laugh and see them too. We do have plans to get together over the summer.
    2. I want to spend more time with my friend, Shannon. She works a lot and it makes it hard. She is a positive force to be around because she is constantly doing something with a smile on her face and she enjoys giving compliments as well as receiving them. Our friendship brings out the positive side of me. I will find out if she has any time off work for the weekend.
    3. It would be great to get in touch with my step father’s niece and spend time with her and her son. I used to babysit her when she was a baby and I was 13 and although there is a huge age difference, she has such fond memories of us being close and she can always seem to make me feel happy.

My positive for today: I guess that I can finally see some changes I need to make in myself to be a more positive person and have a more positive outcome in my life.

  23. Who are 3 Positive People You Can Spend More Time With?

1.my freind senior in ma profession..,a freind with whom i did combine study
    2.my teacher since childhood
    3.my grandmother

Who are 3 Positive People You Can Spend More Time With?

we talk off and on and sometimes daily,,for few days i have lack of positivity in ma daily life due to my freind engaged in her exams..
yeah making plans alwiz to meet them but all depends on my pay ,,when it will come i will be bit free, mature and independant..
all these people are far far away from me still i have feeling and desire to meet them and make off and on plans but all ruin and fade away

now some what my positivity strategy is changed..i m trying to find peace in ma prayers, least in people,i am trying to ground ma self,,but as an human being we cant cutoff our social circle completey it merely disturbs our thoughts and progressively daily routines… :shy: :shy:

    positive thing about the day

1.i will set my room, wardrobe, book shelf,as i have watched celes inspiring room :p :p i had been making plans for months but as i am a lazy and coward ass so sit idly and making air castles all the time for it,,but now should have to take a step
2.mmmmmmmmm…have a fast today…

  24. My Brother, My Mamma and My Sisters. All of them plays a role of energy boosters for me. and last but not least my friend Ram and Nivedita.

  25. stacey_dream 13 years ago

3 positive people I could spend more time with:
    1. My good friend Kate. She the most optimistic and smiling girl ever!
    2. Tanya, my old friend. She never complains and works very hard – she inspires me to get down to business :)
    3. Ann, my best friend. She is such a lovely person! I love her!

I scheduled the meet-ups with all the girls – hope to have a good time with them!

Good thing of the day: I had the first meeting of my Stacey’s English Speaking Club – 1st in 2012! We had a fantastic time together! Can’t wait to see all the Members again!

  26. Recent events have made me way more conscious about the positive people in my life, so I was happy to see this question come up during the challenge. The first person is my friend Nicole, who has helped me get through all of the problems I have had these past few months. She has been a rock for me when I was in a very dark place. We talked about this today when she came to play disc golf with me then later hung out at my house. Very positive person that I can only learn from in life.
The second person has been in my life for a long time. My friend Gayle is going through much of the same problems I am currently. We have shared so much since college and I am honored to call her a friend. I was able to reach out by text to her today and speak for a bit. She normally sends positive text messages each day which have been helpful to me personally.
The third person I had no interaction with today, but maybe I should. Wes is someone I have known also since college. He has seen me at my best, and has been there with a smile and beer to foget about my worst. I owe so much to him, and should take time to check in and see how he is doing.
Among the positive things about today was just taking the time to talk with the first friend on my list. We had a good discussion this afternoon which really helped me to put things into prespective. Hopefully the plans made today will lead to more of these conversations and happier times.

  27. My Three Sons (I will count them as one), they are just the three of the most awesome men I know. Although two are married are parents, I just love hanging out with them one-on-one, two-on-two or all three of them at one time. It’s such a blessing that we enjoy each other always.

My Two Business Partners. We do our business, but they are the best people to spend time with outside of business, hanging out, watching movies, cooking and just their presence are special times.

    • Very nice Theresa that you have Business partners that brings positivity in your life…home and work must be fun for you.. Keep them and continue spreading the love around them..

      • Thanks Serenity,
Very encouraging to hear from you. Your Gift must be that of an encourager. Work and Home is nice, and I pray that I will continue to Spread Love around, more love is needed in the world today.

    1. My Inner Circle
    2. My Family
    3. My Close Friends

  29. my sister and some friends — BUT i’ve learned that its not so much being around the positive people but actually being positive about myself! Even my most supportive friends can only say “you’re going to do great” or “you’re not dumb” so many times! The more I am upbeat about myself, the more people are positive towards me. That is really noticeable and feels great.

something positive today: i felt great even though sore from the race yesterday and i motivated myself to do a short bike ride to get ice cream :)

    • You are so right. Being around positive friends is wonderful but it’s also important to be one of the positive forces in the friendship. I am coming to understand that myself. Motivation is always a great feeling!!

    • Great post leslie! I couldn’t agree more :)

  30. My three close friends. They are the smartest, funniest, and unique people I’ve ever known. It makes me feel super happy whenever I’m around them.

Whenever I hang out with them, I feel like I should improve myself and make myself smarter, more fit, more “whatever” (that will improve me in a positive way of course). They make me positive ;)

I already talked with all of them today, I know I will tomorrow, and the day after that, and until the day I die…mwhahaha

The Hunger Games is coming out Friday, I might go see it with them on Saturday! I can’t wait!

Something positive today: I had a fun math day (which is never) with my table group (although I think two people in my group kind of pissed the teacher off because they talked too loud)
