This is Day 14 of the 21-Day Positivity Challenge held in March 2012, where we work on being positive for 21 days. The challenge is now over but you can do the tasks in your own time. Visit the overview page for all the tasks.
21DPC Day 14 Question
There are many great things we have in our life. However, do we ever stop to celebrate them?
My positivity question to you today is:
What are 5 Things to Celebrate about Your Life Today?
For those with Live a Better Life in 30 Days, check out Day 14: A Day of Gratitude too, on being a more grateful person.
Your Task:
- Reflect and answer today’s question(s). Write as few or as many words as needed to fully express yourself.
- Give thanks for those 5 things. As you get through today, give thanks for having these 5 things in your life. It can be as simple as giving gratitude to the universe. It can be being more appreciative of the item as you are using it today. If one of the important things is related to people in your life (for example, kinship, friendship, love), give thanks to them, by way of a simple thank you note.
- Identify at least one positive thing about your day. It may be something small or something big – as long as you deem it as something positive, it counts. If you have more than 1 thing to share, then by all means, go for it!
Share Your Answers!
After you are done, share your answers in the comments area.
If you’re doing this at the start of the day, you can post your answer for today’s question first, then work on your positivity task throughout the day, then return at the end of the day to share your results for your positivity task and your end-of-day positive reflection.
Check out other participants’ answers. Pick 1-2 participants’ answers and make a meaningful reply to them. Engage in the discussions. This is a group course, so let’s support each other in these 21 days!
Look forward to reading your responses!

I have a new manager at work today. I haven’t spoken to him much yet but he seems like a very nice guy.

– I got to spend it with Nick! We had breakfast, walked the dogs at a state park filled with geese and other water fowl, had lunch out, shopped at Goodwill, and are having a relaxing afternoon right now.
POSITIVE THING
Okay…this is a good one… :D
I had an appointment which required my sitting in a waiting room.
The waiting room had metal chairs with arms on them.
These chairs have not accommodated my body for sooooo many years, NOT EVEN CLOSE!… and….
.
TODAY I WAS ABLE TO SIT DOWN IN THOSE CHAIRS WITH ARMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was a “WOW” moment for me. Well…more than a moment, cause I waited for 1 and 1/2 hours!!!
ANYWAY….I am really making LOTS of progress with my weight loss and exercise program, and the world is opening up to me, BIGTIME!!!!
Even though this is a little thing….I have discovered that it is the little things that count!!! And it is what it represents for me! I AM CLOSER AND CLOSER TO MY GOAL!!!! AND being “out there” in the world, “fitting” in spaces and places, just one of the crowd, not standing out so much with my size!!!!
So this little thing is really a BIG thing! Made me feel SOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D , you get the idea!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D      :
Congratulations, Bette! So proud and so happy for you. You’re right, it’s the little things that count. They all will add up to something big. Keep it up!
Love yourself a little more every day and see yourself getting there.
Asni,
I am so tickled pink that you saw/commented on this post!
Really increases my joy for this milestone.
Good thoughts about loving myself more each day, and SEE myself getting there!!! :D
They are the best, most important thoughts at the heart of the matter!
Thanks for celebrating with me!
I am celebrating these five things:
1. My husband.
2. My home — and the cleaning service that helps me keep it clean enough to be safe/healthy for husband
3. The internet
4. I have work that I love.
5. My friend the massage therapist.
Giving thanks. God bless husband, God bless the cleaners, God bless friends, God bless the good people on the internet, God bless my students, and… well, God has already blessed me. Giving thanks again.
Today’s positivity: see above.
Also: I lost my purse and was going frantic looking for it, saying, God, please help me find it, and then I remembered that in order to hear God answer my prayers, I had to shut up! As soon as I did, I found my purse!
1. I’m a stronger and healthier person than I was one year ago – I have come a long way and overcome difficulties with courage and grown as a person. I am more aware of appreciating life and being ‘present’ and of my own value as a human being. I have more confidence in myself and am a lot happier with my life than one year ago.
2. I’ve got a job and am making steps to progress in my career as I have got a place to study and train further at university in Sept 2012.
3. I have a loving family and loving friends and we keep in touch regularly on Skype and on the internet, and I will be seeing them in person again very soon (nearly 2 weeks til my holiday!)
4. I am making some lifestyle changes so that I can be healthier emotionally and physically, as I have just joined a gym and am making an effort to eat more healthily.
5. I am thankful that my family are well and that I worry less than I used to about upsetting/disappointing my relatives as I am now truly aware of how much they love me.
I am grateful for all the things I mentioned above and I am thankful for my life :) :) Every day I write a list of at least five things I am grateful for and usually I keep it private – but today I’m writing it here for everyone to see and openly saying ‘thank you’!
Positive things about today: I went to the gym, I learnt how the machines in the gym work (!), my flatmate made lunch for us, I’m one day closer to my Easter holiday!
Five things I can celebrate in my life right now:
1. I can look back on myself this time last year, heck, even just six months ago, and see so many positive changes.
2. I’m physically healthy, and far more mentally healthy than I was :)
3. I have wonderful people in my life to support me, both personally and in my work. Not only do they support me, they make me feel positive and grateful towards them.
4. I live in a country that is peaceful, where I can access whatever information I like online, read whatever books I want, talk about anything, criticise the government as much as I like, believe what I want and express that belief – without fear of persecution.
5. I have enough money to live comfortably. I have enough to eat, clean water to drink, I live in a warm, dry house and I can see a doctor for free and get treatment whenever I’m ill – or just need reassurance.
6. (A couple more!) I’ve had access to a good education that has led me to be able to pursue my dream of an academic career at a university that, while it has its faults, I love and where I’m very happy. The pursuit of my dream, and ultimately my own fulfillment, has had enough setbacks to make me appreciate what I have, but not so many that it’s been an uphill struggle all the time.
7. My upbringing was such that I had a good start in life – something that so many people don’t have, and live with the scars throughout their adult life.
—
The task for today? I wrote a letter to someone I was once very close to. I treated her badly last year – I was very depressed and so self-centred that I didn’t realise how much I pushed her away. Then she moved away. I’m not expecting to ever be back in close contact with her, but I wrote a letter telling her how grateful I was that she was in my life for those years, how much of a wonderful person she was, and apologising again for how I treated her. Even if she doesn’t want to be in contact again, I’ll accept that now I’ve told her those things :) And I’m just about to write a similar letter to my parents, to give them when I see them on Sunday (I haven’t seen them since Christmas – I can’t wait  )
—
A positive thing about today: can I have writing the letter?! Also, getting an IT issue sorted out with my uni staff email address, my boyfriend buying me a blueberry muffin and meeting a friend for coffee. It’s been a good day :)
Squiggle, I love that you mention two of the things I consider extremely important: having a good education, and having access to information!
There couldn’t be a better day for me to answer today’s question!
The first and most important thing that I have to celebrate today is that I have a wonderful husband who has shown me what love is. All my life I have been looking for love as I have finally realised that i was raised in an emotionally cold family environment and whilst my physical needs were met, my emotional needs were not. I was raised by a woman who always kept me at arms length and has never said ‘I love you’. Ihave seen love shining from my husband and I have searched so hard to find that for myself. It has been an incredibly painful journey, but I know I am going to be able, finally, to give and receive love. My husband could have justifiably walked away from our marriage years ago as I too, held him at arms length, as I didn’t know how to show him love. However, because he loves me, he didn’t and now as the next chapter of our lives begins, (the kids have flown the nest) we can look forward to the future filled with love.
I celebrate that I have been strong enough to endure the personal journey that I have made over the last 12 months. No pain, no gain as they say!
I celebrate the gift of the love of children generally that I have. Without this, I would have raised my children as my mother raised me and that would have damaged them. However, I was able to overcome my own shortcomings to give them all the love they needed and they are incredibly loving people. Thank God.
I celebrate how good I feel after soooo much pain and grief.
I celebrate life and love and to much more of both.
Sorry, forgot a positive!
A friend asked how things were going for me, which I appreciated.
My husband hugged me when I cried.
I hold no anger towards my mum.
Five things to celebrate my life about today are: (1) I have an amazing boyfriend that goes the extra mile to help me become the person I aspire to become; (2) I have an amazing, loving mother that I can confide in and spend time with; (3) I have free time to explore what I want to do with my life (although, I’m not taking advantage of it as much as I should); (4) I have been a proud dog mommy for almost three months, and waking up to him is such an amazing feeling; and (5) I live in an amazing city where anything is possible and people from all backgrounds aspire to come to and live their dream life, Los Angeles <3 These are my amazing fives.
Something positive about my day is that I started P90X diet plan on Monday and I have been sticking to eating healthier. I am now more aware of the quality of food I eat and although it is really hard to not go buy a juicy burger from our local joint down the street, it feels great to know every day becomes a healthier day.
Five things abt my life worth celebrating;
I have my sister here with me in a foreign country
My family cares for me
My health has greatly improved since last night
I’m not doing badly in class
I’m getting stronger as a person
+ve thing for today, mi sister ws thr for me when I needed her and I met nice doctors at the hospital and I’m feeling better
Please remember to use standard English rather than text-speak abbreviations. Some of us old folks, and maybe some younger ones too, are not necessarily up on what these things mean.
+ve means positive ?
mi means my ?
was means was ?
thr means there ?
Is that correct? “My sister was there for me …?”
If so, that’s great. If I have not interpreted this correctly, I’m still glad that something happened positive when you needed her, and also about the doctors and feeling better.
There are many things I can think about , but the top five things to celebrate about my life today are:
(1) My family, specially my husband, my daughter , my son and my mother
It’s a great feeling being able to love then and being loved in return
I know they will be there for me whatever happens
(2) My work, which I enjoy and which provides me with financial independence
(3) My health
(4) My friends
(5) The Internet
I love reading and learning and the Internet provides so many opportunities, including blogs like P.E. Living on an island , one can feel very isolated. With the Internet, there are no more barriers. My personal development journey would not have been the same without this exposure
The positive thing for today is that I finally joined the gym again – it’s a great feeling
Hi, Ish.
The Internet is something I was grateful for today as well. We can quickly and easily learn about anything for free! It’s amazing that we have all this access to information that can make use happier, healthier, and more successful in life.
Also we have cat videos!
Congratulations on joining a gym! Please keep us updated.
Five things that I can celebrate about my life right now:
1. My health
2. My children, who are happy and healthy, including my furry children
3. My relationship with my boyfriend, who is may not be perfect, but is perfect for me
4. My education and accomplishments
5. My amazing family and wonderful friends
5 Things i celebrate in my life are :
loving husband, good health and wealth, good home and facilities for comfortable living, job and knowledge to differentiate the good and bad, right and wrong…:)
I take this opportunity through this 21 DPC to thank god for giving the above mentioned things and also for things which is going to give for me :)
Positive for the day:
Even though work was pretty hectic today, i did enjoyed and adding to that today also i practised yoga :)
Only five things to celebrate about my life today…. Wow that is going to be tough.
1. My best friend, who is also my accountability partner, my coach, my inspiration, and keeps me in line with my values.
2. My health. I’m getting better and better every day. I work out, I eat right, I’m no longer type 2 diabetic, there is nothing wrong with my liver. I wake up every morning happy to see those two little words from my best friend Good Morning!
3. My job. Over the past 18 years I looked back at my career and finally noticed that my hard work has paid off. It doesn’t mean I will sit back though. But I do need to take time to enjoy the view.
4. I celebrate every day I was born to my parents, and not anyone else. They raised me to be the person that I am now. But it’s not all my parents doings. There were times that I needed to be corrected. It’s like a recipe. It’s a mixture of this and a little bit of that, to get the right mixture, the right taste.
5. I know this might be sad, but I celebrate technology. It’s the innovators that thought outside the box that got us to where we are today technology wise. Technology give us the ability to reach out to people from someone standing right next to you wirelessly, to across the country, to across the world in just a blink of an eye.
Positive thing about today is that I will be participating in a corporate challenge practice session this evening. So excited I’m doing this because it’s completely out of my comfort zone.
I said thank you to my best friend this morning. With out technology, she would have had to wait two to three days for the letter via the USPS.
And she can’t stand to wait for things! :p
She would have stalked the mail man for the letter!
Things in my life to celebrate:
1. My amazing job that allows me to use my talents, enjoy my work, be appreciated, and make more money than I need or ever dreamed I could earn.
2. My independence, allowing me to function without needing support or resources from anyone else.
3. My intelligence and skills, that allow me to pursue creative passions and entertain myself with my thoughts.
4. My ability and willingness to generously use my resources for positive good in the world, by helping people with my extra funds instead of wasting money on unnecessary things.
5. My home and family which add stability to my life.
6. My health. Every day I am grateful that I can walk and move freely. My mother and my son are both unable to walk, so I am reminded daily of the value of the freedom of movement.
Positive thing about today. My air conditioner got fixed.
What are 5 Things to Celebrate about Your Life Today?
1. All the material processions that I have, including a comfortable room, electronic devices like MacBook and iPad, as well as lots of books and personal development resources that I can learn from.
2. My healthy and fully functioning body and mind.
3. My friends, family and loved ones.
4. All my basic physical needs are easily met, including food, shelter, and adequate sleep.
5. Freedom to do whatever things I love to do, as long as they are within the boundaries of the law and my conscience.
Identify at least one positive thing about your day.
Had some of the most comfortable sleep for a long time when a thunderstorm came and I enjoyed the cooling weather.
What are 5 Things to Celebrate about Your Life Today?
The 5 things to celebrate about my life today:
When I woke up, I knew that I’m still alive.
When I left my house, my lovely mom waved at me. I knew that I have a very good mom.
When I met my students, I knew that I have my dream job.
When I had my lunch, I knew that I’m still healthy to had my favourite food.
When I went to the zither class, I knew that I still have my hands to play my favourite music instrument.
In fact, there are many things that I think of celebrating everyday. I appreciate all of them.
Give thanks for those 5 things.
Everyday, when I wake up, I looked at the mirror and smile to myself. I appreciate that I’m still alive when I wake up. When I leave my house for work, I wave at my mom too while I slowly drive off.
When I meet my students, I communicate with them prior to the class, or at least say “hi” to them while I meet them outside the class / college. When I have nothing to do, or thinking of something, I shake my hands, to ensure that my hands are active without any pain. I also try my very best to exercise everyday, at least 15 minutes of stretching exercise.
Identify at least one positive thing about your day.
Today, after the class, I spent my time in a book store while waiting for the time to go to zither class. I read a few books in brief, and I bought a motivational book again. Also, I promised my Japanese friend that I’m going to buy a music stand for her. Today, I finally got one for her~
After I reached to the zither class venue, I saw nobody was there. I gave a call to the person in charge, then only I knew that they have cancelled the class. Although I felt disappointed initially, but when I thought back again, at least I have done what I promised to my friend, to buy her a music stand, and I also bought a book for myself. ^^
5 Things to Celebrate Today:
1. My support system. I am so thankful for this right now! I have a best friend that I can talk to about anything. My daughter is doing great and we have a good relationship. Having family and friends to do things with. All of these things are so important in my life.
2. Dreams. I have so many things I want to do, be, and have right now. I’m making progress on many of them. That’s what keeps me pushing forward every day, even when I get down sometimes.
3. Having a job that I like and helps me support my family and accomplish my dreams.
4. My dogs. They always remind me about the little happinesses in life and are happy to see me every day when I come home.
5. The weather this week. I know I shouldn’t let the weather impact my mood, but I’m so excited to be able to get outside this week and start on some of my outside projects.
I said thank you to my best friend. Will be taking the dogs for a walk tonight – they love getting out. Thanking God for my dreams, job, and the weather!
Positive things about today: It’s a beautiful day out. I have lunch plans with friends today.
God is good, Thanks for sharing.
1.I started to work in the sugar-cane field when still a kid, and retired as a head of department of an important Government Institution. While at work, knowingly I never ever hurt anybody, or took advantage of my office towards personal gain. In retirement when I think of my past,I find no reason to feel any sense of guilt for anything. I thank God for that, and also my family, my mother in particular and all those with whom I have been involved professionally ,and socially, and who must have positively influenced me in my life.
2.Sometime after retirement, I had to undergo two serious surgical operations. In between I got blood infection, and had to stay in hospital for 20 days. At some point, my family members too started thinking, that I might not come out of it. But I did. And you can say I am back to my good self, alive and kicking, so to say. I think ,at that critical time I could feel I was being driven by an inner force which prompted me to be optimist and, confident. Incidentally ,at critical times I have always felt some power sustaining me through. I feel elevated at the very thought that there is an invisible power that is there to watch over you and to give you the right signal. We may give any name ,but there is no harm in calling that force,GOD.
3, When in active life you are always under pressure to do so many things, for yourself, for the family, for the children. After retirement, the situation is gradually reversed provoking a kind of introspection. You tend to think in terms of sharing than expecting more.,in making others happy, even if you have to go the extra mile. You will not hesitate.in contributing positively towards a better society. I am therefore providing some assisstace to deserving students in English,(GP). While they think I am helping them, I feel grateful for the opportunity to keep me intellectually alert, and up to date.
4.I am thankful that I was born in Mauritius, a United Nations in miniature, a small island where live people from all the continents, like several other countries, and .all the main religions of the world co-exist and prosper.
5.I am thankful to nature which keeps reminding me that you are invariably an integrated part and to have moderation in life, and never go away from or hurt mother Nature.Mauritius, in particular offers an abundance of nature’s manifestation in the form of sun sand ,sea, sugar-cane, in addition to mountains and rivers, lakes and forests.Whenever we go to the seaside, and listen to the waves of the sea, and the songs of the birds, we feel relaxed, away from all the worries of life. This is only because we are back to our natural environment.
We are thankful for all that and more, and in return if we have to make some generous gesture to wipe the tears of someone in distress, we should be able to respond spontaneously.
I found this post really interesting!! Thanks for sharing :)
Your home country sounds beautiful, and I also like the image you wrote of wiping somebody’s tears in distress. This is what I want to do in my life — to be there for people in distress. I’m taking steps so ultimately I can volunteer or have a job helping people in emotional difficulty. It’s going to take a long time for me to train but I’ll get there in the end!
Hi Jo,
Thank you for your appreciation of my post. I am happy that in some ways we share the same vision of life, in our own modest ways, of course, which is to experience real happinessin contributing towards others happiness and wellbeing.
I wish you succeed in the realisation of your mission.
5 Things to Celebrate about my life today:
– My body (being alive, in good health, seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, being active)
– The presence of God in my life
– My relationships with my family, my friends and my dear husband
– Having a job (even if it’s not my dream job) and having ideas, projects and dreams
– The beauty of the world around me
I try every day to celebrate and be grateful for what I have and to say thank you to the important people in my life.
Positive things for today:
Thinking about this question (thanks Celes for the great job you are doing)
Getting much help and support from my friends in a difficult situation
The sun smiling at me
Some peace in my heart.
Fabulous day to all!
I’m grateful for being healthy, having a family, shelter/clothing/food, having friends, being able to read/write/use a PC.
There are many other things to be thankful for. I try every morning to remind myself how lucky I am to be who I am and how I am, how important it is to be grateful for all the blessings my life has been gifted with and not taking them for granted.
Positive pill: Today we had the first mock exam, it was literature, and it went so well, I felt extremely relieved at the end of the testing because I wrote answers for all subjects. Now I just have to wait and see how much of what I wrote was fully correct and what wasn’t. I know it’s just a mock exam, and not the real one, but it is a means of verifying how much knowledge I’ve stored so far. :)
Lina, it’s good to be grateful every day of what we have in our life. When we start thinking about it, we see the list is quite long. I found it a good exercise to practice. It makes me feel better each time.
Hope your exam went well. take care and have a beautiful day!
Thank you! You, too, Marie!
The 5 things to celebrate in my life would be:
1) My children
2) My closest friend
3) My dog coming home from the vet after having Parvo, which I have heard is very rare for a dog to recover from.
4) My home being in order and nice to live in.
5) This week has been extremely nice outside. It has been in the low 70’s all week.
To celebrate these things, I am having my children’s pictures taken outside together Saturday. My close friend and I are spending time together Friday. I am doting over my dog’s return yesterday and walking him in this beautiful weather. I am going through and reorganizing my home to make it a nicer place to wake up to. As for the weather, I am taking full advantage of being outside and getting some spring cleaning done and just basking in the sun.
My positive for today is just that the weather is nice and I am enjoying every minute of it.
I woke up this morning, the sun is shining, my cold is on it’s way out, my dad is feeling better, and this 21-day challenge.
Five things I’m thankful for.
1. Good health and the desire to maintain it. Without this I know it would be more difficult to live such an enjoyable life.
2. All the great people I share my life with. Including my wife, close friends (including online friends), and family.
3. The internet. It provides me with all the information I need, and more. Without the internet and all I have learned from it, I’m quite certain I would not be the person I am today and would not have so many additional inspiring people and friends in my life.
4. All the love and caring my late parents provided me throughout my childhood and early adulthood. Without them and their hard work, and my late uncle too, I would not be living comfortably in a nice home close to the beach.
5. Lastly, I am very thankful for my creative abilities. Whether it’s music, cinematography, digital painting, video editing, cooking, or anything else I do, without these abilities and a desire to be good at these things, I feel my life would be quite boring.
Positive things today. Number one would have to be the new camera I bought today. It’s a big step up in image quality from my previous camera and will now allow me to shoot half speed slow motion video. I’m quite excited about the work I will create with this camera.
Number two. The Camera didn’t come with a lens. Thankfully though, a lens I ordered for it online arrived today as well.
Lastly my wife took me out to dinner at the Indian restaurant over the road because I’d taken her to renew her drivers license earlier in the day. Our neighbours were eating there too which was nice.
Oh, this is a hard question. Did not think about this that way before…
1) I am happy to be intelligent and knowledgeable with the curious attitude to analyze erverything interesting.
2) I am happy to have my body. It is healthy, sporty and quite pretty. Also I am more than 6 feet tall!
3) I am independent. I have a well paid job, a car, a motorbike, wonderful holidays and can do whatever I want to do and go wherever I want to go.
4) I have a loving family: my mother, my father, my sister, my brother, my grandma, my aunt and my cousin. We stick together whatever may come and this is just wonderful!
5) I have a wonderful boyfriend, wonderful friends and colleagues. Its the best mix you can imagine. From getting out of the comfort zone, philosophical conversations to having fun, gaming and just enjoying life.
Thinking about these 5 things in this way makes me really celebrate them! I never thought my life qoule be this fine and happy! I will thank my mom and my boyfriend today. I´m not really good at thanking yet, but try with baby steps :)
Identify at least one positive thing about your day :
Todays question is the biggest positive thing for me today, thanks celes!!!
Hello everyone,
hope you are all having a great day.
Ok so top 5 things i am grateful…tough one since i am grateful for a lot a lot of things in my life…
First of all i am grateful for being a healthy, positive and happy individual. I think that from this all else flows so this is my number one thing i am grateful for.
Second i am grateful that i have such nourishing and successful mother, she helps my dreams come to life and she supports most of my ideas and helps me along the way of life.
Third i am grateful that i am living right now, in this period in time when more than ever power of human mind is the most powerful force in the universe and people are starting to change and realize that.
I am also grateful for people that are in my life and for those i am attracting to come to my life, i am grateful that i am surrounded with nice, smart people that are always willing to help me and support me and vice versa.
And because it is hard to say just 5 things i will have to say that i am grateful for all the opportunities that i have and for all the circumstances that i live in, i know that i am very lucky to be exactly who i am and where i am and to have everything that i do. I am also grateful for all past, present and future events in my life because i know that all of those are shaping me to be the best person i can be and to live the best life i can.
So i hope that all of you will realize just how blessed we all are and to be grateful for that each and every day of your life…
As for the positive i got some great opportunities today which i plan to take and use to my advantage…
