21DPC Day 4 Question
Today’s positivity question is:
What Is Your Favorite Movie? And Why?
While we’re on the topic of movies, check out the following PE articles on inspiring movies:
- 13 Meaningful Movies With Important Life Lessons To Learn
- 8 Personal Development Lessons To Learn From Inception
Your Task:
- Reflect and answer today’s question(s). Write as few or as many words as needed to fully express yourself.
- Share your favorite movie with someone.
- Think of someone in your life who may enjoy (or even benefit from) this movie.
- Now, share this movie with him/her, whether by way of a verbal recommendation, by lending him/her your DVD/VCD (if you have it), by buying a copy for him/her (if you want to), or even inviting him/her over to watch the movie together in the upcoming weekend.
- The point of this is to share the love and joy you’ve experienced from this movie with someone else. He/she may well be inspired by it in the same way as you have.
- Identify at least one positive thing about your day. It may be something small or something big – as long as you deem it as something positive, it counts. If you have more than 1 thing to share, then by all means, go for it!
Share Your Answers!
After you are done, share your answers in the comments area!
If you’re doing this at the start of the day, you can post your answer for today’s question first, then work on your positivity task throughout the day, then return at the end of the day to share your results for your positivity task and your end-of-day positive reflection.
Check out other participants’ answers. Pick 1-2 participants’ answers and make a meaningful reply to them. Engage in the discussions. This is a group course, so let’s support each other in these 21 days!
Look forward to reading your responses!

Hmm this is hard question for me i like a lot movie but i hardly favorite anyone i loved LOTR trilogy, i liked a lot Midnight in Paris which amazed me recently! And many more….hard to name all…The Secret for sure…
And i had positive day altogether yesterday!
My favorite movie is Beaches. It always has been…but it has a HUGE meaning to me now because 1)I am sick, and 2)I have never been to the ocean and I am bordering on obsessed with getting there and feeling the sand on my bare feet.
Ooh, fun!
Gosh, it’s hard to choose, isn’t it? I think it’s The Quiet Man, with John Wayne. Because it’s so romantic, and dramatic, but touches on love and friendship and social strata. It’s about marriage as a beginning, and expectations, and doing the unpopular thing.
Most of my favorite movies are about friendship: Tampopo, The Princess Bride, Gods and Monsters, Galaxy Quest, Avanti….
I’m going to go through everyone’s post, and make a movie list for myself!! Thank you!
The nice thing about Day 4: waking up twice: we woke up in the middle of the night and made love, then fell asleep. When we woke up again, we were in exactly the same position, because we’d slept so deeply, with our arms around each other.
21DPC Day 4 – What Is Your Favorite Movie? And Why?
my all time favorite movie ever is, “it’s a wonderful life”. i can watch that movie any time of the year and it will bring me out of any sad or funky mood i’m in. i have wonderful memories of everyone in my family watching it together when we were young kids, including mom and dad and just laughing at all the goofy parts. it’s a timeless movie and the fact that i don’t have to wait until christmas to watch it makes it fun but it is still special to watch during the holidays. i think all of my brothers and sisters feel the same way.
i bought the movie for my youngest brother last year on his birthday and he was so grateful!
a positive thing that happened today, saturday, 3/4, was i attended a retreat for our lifeteen group and the teens in our break out group were so responsive and talkative, they really shared their feelings and answered our questions so it was a good feeling plus it was a beautiful, sunny day in santa fe and that just makes me so happy!
I love watching movies and wouldn’t say I have a favorite but one movie that stands out to me is the movie Despicable Me. I love that movie because it tends to show that everyone has some good in them no matter what and it is very cute and makes me smile.
I think I will watch it with my brother!!! We love to watch movies together
One postive thing about today is the books I have and chance I get to attend college.
What Is Your Favorite Movie? And Why?
Looking over some of the other comments here, I see that I am not the only one who has too many favorites to pin down just “one” favorite! I seem to have one or two for each genre! So, here it goes:
Chick Flick: “Purple Hearts” – The ending was just awesome, I don’t think I have ever cried so hard at the end of a movie before.
Romantic Comedy: “My Best Friends Wedding” – It’s just fun! I love Julia Roberts, she is my favorite actress.
Foreign: “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” – I read the book first, Lisbeth is a true hero!
Comedy: “Stripes” – I lived in the Louisville, KY area when this movie was made, and it’s just fun to watch, and I love Bill Murry!
Scary: “Stir of Echoes” – I’m not a big scary movie girl, but Kevin Bacon and the story line are awesome!
Animated: (sort of animated) “Space Jam” – I’m from Indiana, therefore I love basketball! Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Bill Murry and Bugs Bunny, it just doesn’t get any better than that! I also love the movie “UP”. I love the story. It’s just adorable.
Dark comedy: “Dogma” – Funny and interesting! Truth is, I really like all of Kevin Smith’s old stuff!
Musical: “Grease” – My brother-in-law Dennis, loved this movie, and we watched it together and sang the songs together many times! He passed away, how good to have such wonderful memories of him though!
Looking over my list, I see that most of my favs are rather old! I really don’t watch a lot of movies anymore. I guess out of them, my favorite one to share is “Space Jam”. I put it in for the grandkids awhile back, I was pretty sure that they hadn’t seen it before (cause it’s so old!) They watched it, so I’m thinking they liked it!
I am completing challenges 3, 4 and 5 today (I was gone over the weekend), so another thing about my day today… I work with a pretty great group of people! They even make coming in on Monday tolerable!
I love the movie, Stripes! It never fails to pick my mood up, even after all these years. A lot of really good, funny actors in it, too. Thank you Suz for reminding me about this movie. I’m going to have to look it up on Netflix now. :)
V for vendetta: when I watch it , it makes me feel free and that the world can become a better place.
Aristocats: it just reminds me of my childhood because I used to watch a lot of times when I was a kid.
Anastasia: again another childhood movie, I remember it used to air on TV every year around christmas time.
I don’t really have anyone to share them with since they’ve either already seen them or we’ve watched them together.
Positive thing for the day: I realized I’m starting to understand my physics exercises better and I’m proud of me. :)
Still catching up due to my no-computer-on-weekends rule. So for Sunday, day 4:
One of my favourite movies is The Good Year, with Russell Crowe. It is about a London City banker who is very ambitious and nasty, until he receives news of his uncles death and travels to Provence in France where his life starts to change and he becomes a different person in the end, a better one.
I like the flow of the movie, it does not stress you with suspence, it is easily enjoyed with a glass of nice red wine on a quiet evening at home, and it leaves you thinking happy thoughts, reconsidering situations.
Just recently I have recommended this movie to a good friend of mine, who is a bit isolated lately from anything new because of where he lives, and so it was a little bit like giving him stuff to watch when he is on a desert island. I hope he finds this movie enjoyable, because I personally can watch it a hundred times without being tired of it. Will update when I get his feedback!
A positive thing today – it was a positive day overall! I managed to wake up relatively early, which was a surprise after not many hours of sleep throughout the weekend, and I also felt energetic. I successfully ran some errands, washed my car, which is now shiny, the weather was lovely, sunny, warm. I went to vote for a new president, and so felt content from fulfilling my duty as a citizen. I also visited my grandparents and had a good time with them, even though their health is now not the same as it used to be.
Right now, it would have to be the TLOR trilogy…I’ve come back to it, and rewatched it, at least 4 times/year, in the last three years…there’s something very comforting about it, at least to me. And I still absolutely love the gorgeous scenery, the characters, how well they are portrayed, their virtues, their struggles, their moments of doubt and fear, and mostly, that they keep on fighting without abandoning their faith, their values and without getting astray from their original purpose. Putting first things first, loving and caring deeply for one another….such powerful stories and lessons to learn from the movie and Tolkien’s work!
I even like the fact that the female characters were given stronger roles in the movie than in Tolkien’s books! :)
My positive thing for the day was meeting up for a stroll with an old high school friend, with whom I had a very nice time.
hey beautiful people.i was an off for the weekend and i have registered my official email ddress fro this course.
well my fav movie definitely has to be “shawshank redemption” i remmeber wetchaing it couple of years ago, when i was going through a very low phase in my life. The movie shook me..My fav quoote still remains” Hope is a beautiful thing.
I also liked pursuit of happiness, karate kid, requiem for a dream and eternal sunshine of a spotless mind. These movies inspire you all the time.. and off late i saw “Rocky series” tremendous examp[le of how things are achieved by having a faith in yourself and working hard.
The most positive thing about today was that i am makinga start to brteak my unhealthy routine and when i came out in the evening,i witnessed the first summer evening in india.. winters are over and summers are here.. i love summer evenings..cold harsh times signifying teh winetrs are over
shawshank redemption is definitely a close second for me! i love a few lines in the movie:
Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.
Get busy living, or get busy dying.
I’d like to think that the last thing that went through his head, other than that bullet, was to wonder how the hell Andy Dufresne ever got the best of him.
Zihuatanejo.
thank you for making me smile!
joyce
Ohhh – this was a tough one. I thought about it for days and cannot come up with my favorite movie. My favorite types of movies are those with happy endings, when the human spirit is triumphant. I love those kinds of movies.
I shared my thoughts with my spouse which also prompted him to share his favorite movie.
One positive thing that happened on this day was that we got to go pick up our new travel trailer….Let the journey to the great outdoors begin!
My favorite movie -only because it made me laugh so much and I was i wth my best friend when we saw it was Along came Polly. We left the movie returned to our car and began rehashing all the funny moments. We were laughing so hard in the car on a cold winter day- we still always talk about it and say- that was sooo funny.
My positive for the day was going to a little boys basketball game and seeing him soo excitied that I came.
I can’t describe a favorite movie. If you had asked about books, I could have listed a lot! I’m not sure if that’s because I’ve primarily focused on movies as entertainment, where I feel like books are more of a learning tool. I’m amazed by people that can watch a movie and recite parts of it months later. I know I’ve watched many inspirational movies, and lately I’ve been trying to watch things that are positive in nature, and not just for entertainment, but I still don’t have one that comes to mind, where I can actually remember parts from it. Something to add as a personal growth activity in the future!
Since I didn’t have a specific movie to share with someone, I forwarded a positive TED video to my best friend today. I received it from one of my co-workers and it put a smile on my face. Sharing the positivity!
Positive things about yesterday (since I didn’t get to post this until today): Went to see an old friend that I hadn’t seen in a long time. Spent time with my daughter. Went to a HS tournament basketball game – the community spirit was amazing! :)
Like most people there are many movies that could qualify and I thank all the participants for the good ideas. One of my singular favorites is “Pay it Forward” for the depictions of human beings at their most evil most vulnerable, optimistic, truly selfless and beautiful, frailest and on and on. I try every day to pay it forward daily and there are many days that I find myself especially sorrowful for a tragedy such as a loss of a young life and I make sure that on that day that I perform at least one random act of kindness in that persons name and that of their family
My favourite movie’s
First wives club, because of the strenght of the women and a laugh and a tear.
national lampone’s vacation, chevy chase cracks me up,feel good movie, family bonding.
rv,robin williams,lovely family vacation movie.
the burbs,beautiful neighboorhood,friends,a secret.
Positive thing for today:the warm hug in the morning from my man.My mam make meatballs and she ask if I wanted some for my dinner, ofcourse jummie.Read in my new book. The rain.
This is going to be a really, really quick answer, because while I have a lot of favourite movies, there’s one that just never fails to make me happy and grateful. It may sound silly, but it’s ‘Love Actually.’ It’s just such a lovely glimpse at the different ways people can find happiness with each other, and how daily life can be so inspiring and uplifting. I love it (and have already made several of my friends who haven’t seen it watch it) ;)
One positive thing about today – (well, yesterday, because I’m a bit behind with my comments)… my boyfriend and I were going to go food shopping, but he was playing games with a friend who was staying over and lost track of time :P I got a bit annoyed, but then thought that it was a perfect opportunity to go for a walk and enjoy the gorgeous weather. By the time I’d got to the supermarket, I wasn’t annoyed at him – just grateful that even though it took me time that would have been saved by driving, I had the chance to go for a walk in the sunshine :)
(Also, it started raining really heavily shortly afterwards – but I was indoors, so my timing was perfect! )
March 4tht: What is my favorite movie? Why?
I do not have to stop and pause for this question because I know beyond the shadow of a doubt my favorite all time movie is Phantom of the Opera. I have a copy of the CD, I’ve watched it perhaps 25+ times, yes, and that is no exaggeration on my part. A scarier consideration is that I cry every time I watch the movie almost as if it were the first time I’ve seen it.
The Phantom loves Christine, truly and deeply. He was ready to worship her, as long of course, as she was prepared to play her part in the world his way! He was a victim in so many ways, so many sad ways. His talents were so numerous however he chooses to use them for evil instead of good. He was ruled by heart with no room for reasoning, no room for reasoning.
I’ve seen it live in theatre in Newfoundland, Toronto, and in Vegas. My dream would be to travel to London to see the sequel that would be a dream above my wildest expectations.
There are so many messages in this movie as I hear them. There are so many life comparisons each line; each character holds an emotional charge that lights my soul. When I watch this movie I truly travel from the abyss of death to the fullness of life, full circle …
When I saw it in Vegas with a friend we each bought poster and a wine glass with the Phantom on it. I often sit back and give thanks, using the glass because it carries me back there.
When I saw it in Toronto with a friend, I had the program and the tickets framed with a picture of us both of us.
I just recently saw it again with a friend and she brought me a rose before we went. I have the program, our tickets and the rose on my desk at home. I plan to frame it as well and return a copy to her. She just bought a new home so I am sure she will love it for her TV room.
I love it because it makes me feel alive; it wakes every emotional cell within me. It gives me a sense of culture, real or perceived, it offers me that. The dances, the vocals, the artistry of costumes, the characters, I just go on and on and on.
One of my favorite parts is when the Phantom enters the New Year’s Eve ball at the top of the stairs. He commands in this entrance and the musical, “The masquerade “, does that not just breathe reality…
I regularly share the movie with a friend over a glass of wine so sharing it will not be an issue…. When I plan one on one time with a friend and it involves The Phantom it is a full agenda ….
I look forward to my next date with “The Phantom”…
On another note I was thrilled when I read your write up on top movies with a deeper message. I think it is pretty cool how many of them I have already seen! Totally Wow !!!!!
One Positive thing that happened today: My sister called me! We have not spoken in months. That was a huge step for her I am sure… I give her full credit. I will follow up on the call and not let it slide; there is much to do in that communication! Being family does not always mean being friends. There is a key to finding balance without losing yourself or each other…
Warm Smiles
I don’t have ONE favorite, I like so many for so many different reasons. I do have to say I always enjoy romance/love stories…..And now I’m living mine since I recently found my prince charming
It was a beautiful day out and I went to my very first Yoga class with my sweetheart !
What is your favorite movie, and why?
This is such a hard question for me! I LOVE movies, picking just one favorite is a little difficult! I really had to sit and think about this one. This probably changes on a day to day basis for me…but today, I’m choosing The Nightmare Before Christmas!
Is that a silly choice for an almost 26 year old?! Maybe….but I’ve always loved it! That’s the great thing about it, no matter how old I get, I still enjoy watching it. It’s just a good, fun move. And I really love anything by Tim Burton. How cool is it that The Nightmare Before Christmas was the first stop-motion full length movie?! And the music…wow the music is just so FUN! Danny Elfman is extremely talented. I really just can’t help but love this movie!
If any of my friends or family ever say to me they haven’t seen, I make them sit down and watch it with me. So far, I’ve had no complaints! I’ll continue to do it! And when we have children and they are old enough to watch it, hopefully they’ll love it too!
One positive thing about my day: My husband took me out for a coffee date this morning, and the weather was just GORGEOUS! It was a wonderful start to our day. I love him so much!
Have a good one, everyone!
A really inspirational movie, to me, is… hey, do TV Shows count ? Because if they do, I’m going with Nikita. And I did talk about it to almost all of my best friends, and asked one of them to watch a season 1 marathon with me during the next holidays ! =)
Now for the best thing that happened to me on the 4th of March… well, it was my last day of work in Marseille and for once instead of doing the sales speech for our video games project, I went to the other department to sell our products. And we had GREAT results. I really love everything that I do there ! =D
I had trouble seeing this website last night, so I write one day later. :/
Lets see…i loved movies before, but now I watch series more. I like sci-fi and fantasy. And I can remember what movies I loved but now it seems i don’t have a favorite one, or I can’t remember. The latest one that amazed me was District 9. So I’ll write about it…probably can’t remember any other one since they weren’t that good :D
I liked District 9 because it shows reality despite being an “alien movie”. Tells a lot about us humans, how we can be cunning, evil, selfish, stupid…but also shows that we can help , be kind. The movie shows how it is in our nature to act stupid when we fear of something, and how we fear because of lack of knowledge.
The last thing the viewer will get from this movie is science fiction. I felt like I was watching movie with only humans in it.
I feel a need to mention that I’m currently watching series Kyle XY and I think it’ll be my favorite series now. Main character is a person that I wish to be in some way. Good and warm person :)
oh, and the positive thing that I did yesterday wassss….finding the reference for my essay. :) I thought it’ll be easier but since I searched in English, it was hard to explain to Mr.Google what I wanted ;D
It’s not just you Katarina – the site was down for about 6-7 hours yesterday. The previous hosting package I was on could no longer support the resources the site consumes. So I finally upgraded to a new package today. Hopefully that means no more downtime for a good stretch of time. :) Sorry about the inconvenience!
I’m glad that you found a way to fix it. No biggy,I thought something like that was a problem. I waited patiently for it to appear again :)
District 9 made me cry – it was just such a perceptive look at humanity, and it made me think that actually, if something like that really happened, we’d probably behave in exactly the same way :( So thought-provoking.
I have a couple of favorite movies, but the one with the most meaning behind it is The Shawshank Redemption. It’s one of the few movies that never fails to move me, no matter how many times I’ve watched it. I just love how the movie shows that a positive outlook on life can change you for the better, no matter what your current situation may be.
One positive thing that happened today was I finally started painting the hallway in my house. I’ve been putting it off for a while, in part because I’ve never painted before and was scared I would make a mistake. I’m glad I bit the bullet and started because it’s looking good so far. I can’t wait for the finished product.
The Shawshank Redemption…what a wonderful movie and such a great choice! :)
Are you remodeling your entire home, or did you just want to get the hallway painted? Have fun!
Hi Renee and thank you for your comment!
My husband and I are kind of in a never ending process of remodeling. Since we bought the house six years ago we’ve been slowly doing things when we have the time and money. We’ve gotten a lot accomplished with the house last year and I’m hoping to keep up the momentum this year, too.
I’m not a great fan of movies. But my favorite ones remain 24, the American TV Series produced by Fox with Jack Bauer as main actor.
Why? Because virtues of courage, sacrifice, consciousness, intelligence and determination – main components of personal development are higly developed.
My favourite movie has to be Zeitgeist: Moving Forward. It’s mostly a documentary but partly a thought experiment of a better future. It explains perfectly why the world is what it is and how we as humanity could leave the old money-centred system behind and truly Move Forward :D
I’ve already shared it with several people and tried to share it with others. Hmm, I’ll try my mum again. Last year she was uber busy but now maybe she will find those few hours :)
Also, since it’s freely available on Youtube, I’ll share it with PE! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Z9WVZddH9w
Positive things yesterday? *sad shrug* Yesterday was so dreadful, that this is gonna be a real task. The only positive thing really was that our website that I worked on finally started to work. But there’s so much more I should have done and didn’t manage :(
Also, shared some Estonian songs with a friend late at night and she seemed to strangely enjoy one of them :P
Fave movie???…..For hindi dare I say 3 Idiots not just the comedy but also the vividly new philosophy that it provides your life with…….
For english I got two of them Eat, Pray, Love love the way Julia Roberts works her way to wanting a better life…
also the Karate Kid…though this flick deals with a totally different genre, i love the sheer willpower, support from those around you and the practice that gets you to your goals….
Positive of the day….darn, didn’t get much to take the bright side of from the day’s events, rather it was much a drab and gloomy day, lights out all day, dampened moods, uncontrolled thoughts, mix-bag of emotions………. :( ….though i learnt that taking out your  anger  at the Power Company is a great way to drain excess energy!! :D
My favorite movie of all times is National Lampoon’s Vacation with Chevy Chase. It’s so funny and stupid and funny again. I watch it somtimes and it’s always funny.
My possitiv thing today was to meet my girlfriends over dinner, talk and laugh and just enjoy the evening with candel lights and open fire and a nice dinner. My friends means so much to me ! :-) and today Im going to send them a small note, to tank for the evening and tell them how much I love them and how important they are to me.
Fav movie ” the pursiut of Happyness” _ loved Will Smith in the movie – very inspiring and heart wrenching .I recommend to everyone as evryone can take something positive from the movie .
Daily Positive :Being positive and not letting one person ruin my day .Getting everything on my to do list completed by end of the day – that includes ME TIME!
Great Movie – He was indeed very inspiring! Have you ever seen ” Meet Joe Black?, Another fab movie!!!
Smiles
I find it very difficult to choose just one. In general I like sci-fi/fantasy, comedy and love stories (if they’re really good and about true love, not shallow romance).
Some of my favourite movies are Lord of the Rings, Snape’s memories from Harry Potter 7 pt 2 (I’m counting that :P) , Big Fish, Iron Giant, Finding Nemo and many, many others.
Most of the people I know have already seen most of these movies. I did recently watch Iron Giant with Hylke (he’d never seen it) and he loved it.
One of the highlights of the day was watching The Notebook. Apparently everyone female I know has seen it because it’s been often mentioned in comparison to how sad they feel or something to that effect. Already not the best of reasons to want to watch it but I was curious. I looked up the synopsis, so I knew exactly what was going to happen and I still cried my eyes out (which almost never happens ever). It was beautiful. I loved it.
Have you ever seen “If only” ?
We could all learn a very important lesson from this movie … live each moment as if it could be your last … tell the important people in your life just how important they are to you …
Tell the love of your life just how much you love him/her … EVERY time you get the chance, not just once in a while …
Life is so short … make each moment, each second, special and make it count !!!
Today, I want to share a beautiful verse with you that means a lot to me:
“When the oceans rise and thunders roar, I will soar with You above the storm. Father, You are King over the flood. I will be still and know that You are God.”
Enjoy your day,
M :-)
I love your quote ….
Another for your collection ” When we come to the edge of all that we know we must continue on, knowing that if we jump, there will be ground upon which we can walk or we will be given wings to fly ” FAITH : ”
Have you seen the movie The 5 people We Meet in Heaven?
Just from your write up I am thinking you might enjoy that one. It holds great meaning, it’s emotionally charged but it is a beautiful movie…
Smiles
My favorite movie is Back to the Future. I have loved that movie since I was a little kid. When I was little I loved it because I thought Marty (the main character) was really cool and I loved how the time machine was this crazy car that could travel through time.
Now that I’m older I appreciate it for different reasons. One of the reasons is because Marty goes back in time and meets his parents when they were teenagers. Did you ever wonder what your parents were like before you were born? Marty gets to see that first hand. He’s a little shocked by the culture of the 1950s and how his parents behaved as teenagers.
When Marty is living in the 1980s he tells his girlfriend that he is afraid of what others would think of his music and says he couldn’t face that kind of rejection. His father encourages Marty and says that if he puts his mind to it he can accomplish anything. When Marty goes back to the 1950s it’s his father who is afraid of other’s rejection. Marty must then help his father gain confidence in himself.
I’m not sure who I could share this movie with since everybody has seen it a million times. I’ll find someone though.
One positive thing I that happened today was I had a nice conversation with one of my neighbors. I haven’t spoken to her much since she moved in but she was a very nice person.
