Hi everyone – Welcome to Day 18 of 21DJC! :)

Closing of 21DJC and Year End Challenge for 2011

Just a quick note that we only have 3 days left till the end of our 21-Day Journaling Challenge. We started on Nov 7, and 2.5 weeks have already passed by since. I hope all of you are gaining valuable insights from the journaling, because I know I definitely am.

On Nov 27, which is this Sunday, 21DJC will come to a close. A few short days after that, we will be launching right into our highly anticipated Live a Better Life in 30 Days – the premium, 30-day life development course at PE. Started since Sep ’10, we’ve since had 3 successful runs of 30DLBL, and Dec ’11 will be the 4th official run of the course. This will be *the* challenge for us to close off 2011 and start off 2012 with a big bang.

You must definitely not miss this. I’ll be opening for sign ups very soon (in a couple of days), so stay tuned. Make sure you’re on the newsletter so you’ll get the announcement directly in your inbox.

Day 17 Review

Yesterday’s question was: “If The World Came To An End Today, How Would You Feel?“. (Read the responses.)

With year 2012 coming up in less than 40 days, I thought it would be an interesting question to ponder upon. 2012 has been commonly associated with the end of the world, and while I personally do not believe the world will end in 2012, I think it’s still something worthwhile to consider.

If the world came to an end today, I would first feel sad, because the immediate thought was I would not be able to continue pursuing my purpose (in the current form). I’m experiencing so much joy doing it that I don’t want it to ever end. And certainly not via the expiration of the very civilization I’ve devoted my life to serving, too. That would be very devastating to me.

That said, I understand that whatever will be, will be. If the world was to truly end today, there must be a good reason behind it. For every ending, there is a new beginning, and I believe there will be new things in store for all of us ahead. I personally believe the human spirit lives on after death, so I’m not too hung up about issues concerning life and death.

For what it’s worth, if the world does indeed come to an end, it probably means we (as a civilization) have finished fulfilling whatever we are meant to achieve (when the world was first created) and that it’s time to move on to the next stage in our evolution. So that’s actually a very good thing, and something to look forward to.

With that said, let’s now move to today’s question!

21DJC Day 18

Today is the 4th last day of 21DJC, and the 4th last question of the challenge. Today’s question is:

What Matters Most To You?

Silhouette of a woman facing the sunrise

Having lived X years of your life, what would you say are the things that matter most to you? Is it money? Is it material possessions? Is it spending time with your loved ones? Is it seeing the smile on their faces? Is it seeing the sun rise every day? Is it good health? Is it achieving your goals with excellence? Is it being the best person you can be? Is it to live to the fullest?

Your Task Today:

  1. Reflect and answer today’s question. There’s no word limit – whether minimum or maximum. Write as few or as many words as you want. It’s all up to what you want to express!
  2. Share your answer. After you are done writing, copy and paste your answer in the comments area and post it there.
  3. Check out other participants’ answers. Other participants will be sharing their answers too, so feel free to read and reply to their answers. This is a group course, so let’s support each other in these 21 days.
Look forward to reading your answers! :D

  1. What matters to me are the well-being of my family & myself and also the pursuit of my life goals and dreams.

  2. Their are lots of things that matters to me but the most of them are;

Glorifying God in all i do,
the way i live my life ( a purpose-driven life),
    my family,
    my friends and well wishers,
    putting smiles on people’s face,
    effecting lives and situations positively,
    appreciating people, things and situations.

  3. What matters most? First of all, my family – my husband and children, my mother. Loving them and caring for them is important, and being loved also matters a lot.

I like reading and learning. More than liking, I think I need growing and learning. whether it’s book or a blog. It includes growing professionally, personally, spiritually. Sometimes, it seems like I am a sponge and need to absorb knowledge.

Being independent is important to me as well. It will include financial independence (i.e. having an income independently from my husband), but also my health and physical condition, specially my eyesight as discussed in an earlier question.

I’ve lived 18 years and they tough me enough to understand the life i want to live. What matters to me the most, I’ve thought that before and I know very well it’s not money ore material possessions that are things that come and go, but what really matters to me is having a worm spiritual life, feeling good in my life felling happy felling worm. And for being happy I want to achieve my goals the best way possible, certainly with excellence and being my very best self which i now is a person worth living for to becoming. If i manage to do that, achieve my goals and being the best person I can be I’ll surely will be living my life the fullest. :D

  6. My priorities have changed drastically over the past year.

Previously, it was about self satisfaction. It was about redemption, and false claims. My idealized self (reference taken from Karen Horney’s “Neurosis of the human mind”) was in a sense of eternal greed. Money was important to me, praise from others was important to me, prestige was king.

Things have changed..and are still continually changing (for the better..i hope)

God matters to me most now. I think that is the key. All the other pieces of the puzzle will fall in to place if my focus becomes paying a tribute to his Holyness and glory. I believe that if i am faithful, and solid, and persevere, all the other It has to be the umbrella under which all the other things i care about fall. These include

-Caring for others more than myself
-Not hurting others. Helping them. Making them happy.
-Making this world a better place
-Friends, my chosen family, people i care for. Their happiness and well being.
-Improving myself and raising my consciousness level.
    -Increasing knowledge and wisdom
-Taking care of my mind, body and soul
    – Making the best use of my time
    – Protecting my mind from useless banter, corruption and just wrong things
    – Doing my job to the best of my ability.
    – Finding a higher calling in life
    – Finding someone i can share my life with. This for some weird reason that really matters to me these days
-Being humble but also courageous enough to stand for what i believe in
    – Constantly improving, and growing in the right path. Doing things which actually matter.

  7. Being in good health and having the faculties (physical, mental, etc.) to carry out my dreams and live a life where my strengths can be used to their optimum. When I am in poor health I cannot contribute to the world around me, and contributing productivity and knowledge is my essence of my being. So I get my exercise, I eat a good diet, I get my sleep, etc. and I am truly ‘at my best.’ The ultimate challenge will be if I am unfortunate in my future days to fall to a grave illness and how I react to that will be interesting. I have already experienced a detour inn life when I broke my back and was unable to walk for a year but then I got my life back. I certainly never wish such a terrible ordeal on anyone, but through that ordeal I also achieved an appreciation of back pain that I otherwise dismissed. Now I understand very well what a lot of people go through if they are beleaguered by that malady. I hope that the remaining days of my life here will be healthy ones. Without my health I cannot be a companion to my hubby or my friends and family. Without my health I cannot complete my spacecraft and deliver new and exciting discoveries to our world. Without my health I cannot live life to its fullest. Each day I am healthy I am happy and full of energy. May I have many of these days ahead.

  8. A good name for myself and health, clear personal growth, some friends and family for a heartfelt conversation, for support and advice, skill in an area or two, cheerfulness and ability to get along with others, spending time in a best possible way, positive attitude, freedom, short and long range goals, courage, everyday fun and a purpose to live for, affluence and a heart to pray noble and give to others what i have, adventure.. in this order

  9. What matters most to me?

My goals matter to me. Not just having my goals but also feeling like I am making some progress on my goals and moving in the right direction. When I am I feel alive. When I feel like I am stagnating I feel awful :P

People are very important to me. My family for one is very dear and important to me. Even people I know online have a special place in my heart.

Having a connection with my inner self is important important to me. When I feel like I am connected with something that is more than just my physical shell or the physical world I can feel that everything will always be alright.

What matters most to me? Definitely Loved ones. I could have all the power in the world being able to have anything, do anything and go anywhere and would not be happy without my loved ones and Music:)

  11. My Family, my Health, my Business, my Health and my Sweet Home matters most to me.

Family : They are always their with me in my ups and downs and I’m always their for them unconditionally. :)

Health : Health matters to me because without good health I could not achieve anything in my life. Being in good health motivates me further to get succeeded at every moment.

Business : I’m a self made man. I never taken anyone’s help to grow my business. For what I’m today, is all through my hard work….so my Business matters to me a lot. I love my work and would like to achieve higher success in the same.

Home : Owning a dream home was my dream from when I was in teens. When I get married, we stayed at rented house and after working hard day and night, I purchased my Sweet Home and gifted it to my wife after 8 years of marriage….No doubt her support was there with me always and she is the one who motivated me all the time. I think, in my life this is the best gift from me to her. :)

  12. What matters to me most are my husband and my sons
Without them my life would feel terribly empty, I would feel empty and at the same time I would give up all for them, for their safety or health.

  13. Good health was the first thing that came to my mind too.

  14. what matters to me most is to feel good, to feel peaceful.

  15. That I have the potential to push my edges, make a difference, discover love, and live a full life!

May you know love and peace!
    -Ed

  16. The second i saw this question i knew that this will be my shortest answer so far, and my answer is :

Love in all of its countless forms.

  17. Everything about me matters!

My life, my family, my relationships, my passion, my career, my dreams, my goals, my ideal life, my strengths, my weaknesses, my happiness, my growth.

As long as they are connected to me, they all matter. Because only I will be facing them, only I feel what I feel in them, uniquely.

  18. I still find that validation is very important to me: I feel like I should be past that stage in my growth already but it would still seem that I’m not. Having affectionate time with my close friends also matters a lot to me. Another thing is legacy: what kind of world I leave behind for future generations to live in. Another thing is filling my life with a great number of excellent personal experiences, both for growth and to enjoy in the present moment. Being ready for the future is also very important to me. I like to know how to respond to things as they come up, or at least have the creativity and the ability to think on my feet for when things do come up that I wasn’t expecting.

  19. My family, friends, learning, sharing, health and fitness, figuring out my passion/my life mission, peace, equality, happiness.

  20. Being alive at this very moment, now.

  21. What matters to me most??
    My family

    My friends

Living every day without regrets and without holding anything back

Being more than the sum of my parts, somehow making myself a better person regardless of what I’m given to work with.

Good Health!! I never knew how very important this one was until the last couple of years. Of course everyone wishes to be healthy, not have a cold or the flu but it is really soooo much more than that. And those fellow chronic illness health suffers out there know exactly what I mean.

Always growing and learning every day, and hopefully, helping others to grow and feel challenged and driven to making changes for the better in their lives as well!!

Being alive!! Today in this time, with all of you doing this Personal Excellence Journaling, and knowing that somehow, in ways I may never understand…that WE matter!!

    • Ha, Raven – have just read your last two lines just having posted my thought below!!

Liked all of what you wrote and particularly agree with the good health bit. All the very best for your particular journey with that one.

      • Thanks Lottie!!
All the best to you as well! I’m sure with this question of “what matters most” there will be many great minds that think alike.
I hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy living in the moment!!

My loved ones. Being a good person. Doing my time and doing as little damage as possible while I am here on this planet. Finding my purpose. Recently, I’ve learned that respect if very important to me. Bringing happiness to others. Ending the suffering of others.

  23. My personal integrity, be it physical, emotional, psychological. I learned not to accept anything that might diminish or endanger my growth or others’ personal development. Respect for myself and others. Freedom and independence. In short, my personal values and beliefs.
The happiness and well-being of my family and people around me. Helping others get through difficult times. Making strong bounds with them.
Music. His smile. My hand in his.
    Love. Faith. Kindness.

  24. Karman Warner 14 years ago

This is probably the most difficult question I have had to answer since we started this adventure because so many things matter to me and yet not one takes precedence over another. If I were to have to pin it down I would have to say that my loved ones matter most. Each in their own way yet none more important than the next.

  25. I’m not really sure what matters most to me.
It has been a lot of things, but currently I’d say material possessions.
Which seems pretty vain, when I think about it, but yeah that’s it so far.

  26. What matters most to me?

I would like very much to be at peace, forgiven, in heaven – and wish the same for everyone.

Meanwhile – my family and their happiness and health are important to me.

  27. I guess my comment didn’t post earlier- bad signal through the wilderness of Utah. But so beautiful!

I’m getting married tomorrow, so that’s most important right now. :-)

But generally, what matters most to me is:

-my husband (almost), family and friends
-the new career and business we are building
-helping my family members in any way I can
    – doing what I can for society in general
    – books and music!
-making the most out of every day

Just looking at the list, I can see that I’m not spending as much time as I should on things that are important to me. Time to re-evaluate my days and cut out the unimportant stuff!

    • How Wonderful!!!!

Hope you have a beautiful happy wedding day !

Good Luck – and may God Bless your marriage.

    • Christina,

      CONGRATUALTIONS!!!
I’m sure you will have a beautiful wedding and a magical day. I think you list is very selfless list and full of great things and I also agree a little bit more of things just for you could be in there too. But music can be for you and for others. Books can be shared or read to those who can’t anymore or can’t yet :)
I don’t think any of the the things you listed are “unimportant” but especially entering a new marriange, make sure to take time for you and do what makes you happy and healthy!!
Sorry, didn’t mean to lecture, just congratulate….ooops.

      Have a GREAT day!!
      Raven

      • Thank you! We’ve had a wonderful day.

I think you’re right. I think I really had it drilled into me as a child that it’s more important to do things for others than for oneself. In some ways, that’s defined some of the big mistakes in my life. I need to remember to be nice to myself! Thanks again.

    • Congratulations!! :D

  28. Being myself and live life the fullest…
    Being with family and friends…
Help those in needs when I can…

  29. My family and my health and welbeing
Living life in balance and peace
    My country stability
    Living with dignity and free
    My financial security
    My goal achievement, success

This is a very good question and indeed very challenging. As we are all unique human beings, we tend to differ in most cases about our priorities in life. Meaning that what i value most might not rank on the next person’s list. It has often been said that money is not very important, but its easier to cry in a Mercedes car than on a peddle cycle. So in many people’s lives money is really important, and to be honest, i take it to be important to me too. However i can do without money just as i can do without most of the material things that money purchases. I mean, i can live a very basic happy and fulfilled life without the dosh.
My family happiness is vitally important. I love to see, feel and share in their sincere happiness and enjoyment of life every day, and i do move mountains to make this happen. I do value every single moment i spend with my family, and i cherish every minute i am around them.
Waking up in the morning to feel that bleeze, smell the natural scent of wild flowers, hear the birds sing and see the sun rise, means a heck of a world to me. I believe it does to most of the people who are able to do so.
When it comes to performance and achieving distinctly in life, i go extra distances to realize this. I love to see myself up there on the very top of the achievers list. Reaching my life goals and being able to serve people every day means a lot to me. I do whatever it takes to make this happen in my life’s journey every time.
However, with all the above mentioned activities in place and very important in my life, nothing ranks higher than health in my life and pretty certain in most people’s lives. I mean i have to be healthy to be able to carry out all those mentioned activities in my life and enjoy it too. I also love to see all members of my family very healthy and all humanity wherever possible so we can all enjoy God’s gift of life to mankind together. So health is what matters to me most.
