This is Day 12 of the 21-Day Journaling Challenge held in Nov 2011. The challenge is now over but you can do the tasks in your own time. Visit the overview page for all the challenge tasks.
Hi everyone – Welcome to Day 12 of 21DJC! :)
Yesterday’s question was: “Out of Your 5 Senses, Which is the Most Important to You, and Why?“. (Read the responses.)
The intention of yesterday’s question is to make us appreciate our 5 senses. Which is the most important sense to us? What would happen if we lose that sense? How would our experience of life change?
The reason why I asked yesterday’s question is because one of my teachers posed the question to the class when I was in primary school.
I remember feeling struck when I first heard the question. “What would happen if I were to lose one of my senses?“, I thought. I would be devastated, for sure. These 5 senses, which I had taken for granted, have been monumental in creating my life experience. Without any of them, I couldn’t imagine how life would be like.
There is no right or wrong answer – each answer depicts what is the most important sense to you. Interesting, your answer suggests whether you’re more of a visual person, an audio person, a sensorial person, a person who values smells, or a person who values taste.
Hopefully, from answering the question, you became aware of the importance of all your 5 senses, and the role they play in your life. From reading your answers, and how many of you expressed gratitude for the senses that you often take for granted, it would definitely seem that has been achieved.
For me, the most important sense to me… I would say it’s sight. I can’t imagine living a life of darkness. I’m a visual person – it’s what I notice at the beginning; it’s the first thing I remember about events and scenes.
That said, the sense of smell is important to me too, as is the sense of hearing, taste, or touch. It’s definitely a challenge having to pick one sense over another, so let’s make sure we never run into the situation where we have to do that, shall we? Let’s treasure our 5 senses and care for them duly.
Let’s protect our eyesight by only reading when the room is well lit, taking a quick break every once in a while when using the computer, and not forcing ourselves to wear contact lens when our eyes are tired (for contact lens users).
Let’s protect our hearing by not blasting our music at full volume and listening to it at a moderate level. Let’s also protect it by staying away from places with noise pollution, such as booming clubs, places with loud traffic, and so on.
Let’s care for our nose by not picking at it constantly, not sniffing at uninviting smells, not blowing it hard when we have the flu, and not stuffing things up our nostrils.
Let’s care for our skin by washing it regularly, not coming into contact with extreme temperatures (hot or cold), using mittens when removing items from the microwave/oven, using gloves when doing dish washing, wearing gloves and socks when we feel cold, and keep ourselves well covered during the winter times.
Let’s care for our taste buds by not taking spices we are not accustomed to, not smoking, not consuming food that has expired or gone bad, and not consuming food high in preservatives, because they may well desensitize our taste buds.
With that said, let’s now move to today’s question!
21DJC Day 12
Today’s question is sort of a precursor to our highly anticipated, upcoming Live a Better Life in 30 Days Challenge for Dec 2011. Today’s question is:
What Are Your Biggest Goals for the Next Few Years?
What do you envision achieving in the next few years? What do you most want to see happen? What are the goals and dreams you want to see unfold?
We will be working on our ideal life, our life goals, life map and vision board in detail during 30DLBL next month, so take this as a preliminary outlet to think over your goals in the next few years.
(Today’s question can be found in #28 of 101 Important Questions To Ask Yourself In Life.)
Your Task Today:
- Reflect and answer today’s question. There’s no word limit – whether minimum or maximum. Write as few or as many words as you want. It’s all up to what you want to express!
- Share your answer. After you are done writing, copy and paste your answer in the comments area and post it there.
- Check out other participants’ answers. Other participants will be sharing their answers too, so feel free to read and reply to their answers. This is a group course, so let’s support each other in these 21 days.

My biggest goals in life for the next few years are:
1. To work on my self. Being that I am now finishing my degree and going to the professional world I am working on a few ethical issues with regards to my profession.
2. To have a clear picture of the person I would want to be in a long term relationship with. I have an idea of someone I would love to have as a husband but I have not reflected on the matter keenly to have clear qualities outlined which I think Is something I should take seriously.
3. To have a legacy among the youth in Africa especially ladies. Women in Africa do not know their rights, and hence are manipulated and stepped over without knowing. As an educated youth I will take it upon my self to do some civic education among my peers.
In the next few years I want to figure out a way to make more money for me and my husband, partially by some sort of more passive income. I also want to try and have a baby as soon as our financial situation is more stable and we can actually afford that.
Since my husband and I just got married and would love to expand our family, I guess my biggest goal in the next few years, would be conceiving our first baby. We have been trying for few months by now but we still got no luck.
On top of that, I hope, my husband and I could move into our very own house soon. I also plan to keep working to earn and save some money so I can help my parents in Indonesia buy a new decent car.
Also, I really wish that I can see growing traffic on my blog and monetize it in the coming years.
My biggest goals for the next few years?
1. Get good grades.
2. Try to complete 4 more college classes (In highschool)
3. FIX any broken relationships ~or the one’s worth fixing
4. Move up in my job
5. Finish any books I’m working on ^_^
I think I need to mantain the achivments I have made over the years in:
-my spiritual life, increase my faith;
-the family, allways put them in first place and tell them how much I love them and demostrate it to them;
– keep me in good shape (good health);
– keep my very great friends who I adore;
– continue to enjoy my life doing waht I like so much.
I could concentrate mostly in my professional life. I would like to get one better job, since now I have like 5 little jobs and are driving me nuts, I need to get the good ONE. That´s my goal…!
My biggest fears are being broke, having to live a low-life lifestyle surrounded by unintelligent people, being unsupported, and seeing the world go to hell because of economic turmoil or Climate Change.
As part of my Life Handbook (which I made based on Celes’s post about it on the blog) I have kept a 5-year plan. The big goals are:
-Move out of my parent’s house
-Get my career going
-Find ways to build passive income, and start using them. An extra £1k per year would be a good starting point, building it to £10k and then further.
-Travel to various places (including New York and the Mediterranean. I also want to visit Totnes, which is in Devon, UK, because of the thriving alternative community there)
-Try a raw food diet for at least a month, for the experience if nothing else
This year, for the first time, I asked myself: “What can I achieve this year that I am not guaranteed to?” What would be a stretch for me? What would take me out of my comfort zone? What would be new?
I guess my first big goal is to care for Cleo and make sure she is healthy and happy. To grow as she teaches me how to be a mom.
I have many goals. I would like to write a book, subject still unknown to me. I would like to be earning and saving money, which I am doing on a smallish scale. I’d like to do this on a largish scale. I have at LEAST doubled my income this year, I would like to at LEAST triple from where I am now.
I would like to learn the ins and outs of a good digital camera and start taking sweet pictures.
I would like to be able to work from home and be around to take care of Bunnykins.
Although our house is OK, I would like to move in to a nicer place, that I could modify and decorate to my liking (with fireplace! wood floors or (some) carpeting! Good plumbing & sealed fixtures!), and with maybe a little yard. I’d really like to get a washer and dryer. This goal would be awesome if I could meet it sooner than later.
I’d like to go back to school, mostly just for fun. I would like to graduate with some sort of degree, just to feel good and finally pass that milestone.
I’d like to set a good example for my daughter, and do really fun things with her.
I would like to go on an amazing vacation…maybe somewhere tropical.
I also will pay off my student loan most definitely in the next three years.
I have 3 goals for the next few years.
1) Start my nonprofit 501(c)(3) shelter dog rescue group. I have been thinking about this seriously for the last 6 months or so, and since I’ve begun volunteering at the shelter it has been made more apparent to me than ever that now is the time. It is so hard to get an adoptable loving dog pulled for a willing foster family that I would like to just sidestep the BS and be able to pull the dog myself. I can’t think of anything I would rather do in my free time than to rescue dogs, and it has been more clear than ever in the last few months that this is something I need to do, my soul is craving it.
2) Achieve my Bachelors Degree in something. I was following the path of becoming a nurse for the past 3 years. I was 2 classes away from applying to the program before I realized that I don’t WANT to become a nurse. I actually have no desire. My family has pushed me as long as I can remember to be a nurse or a doctor, a lawyer, etc. They seemed so happy when I announced that I was working toward becoming a nurse that I just blindly pursued it. I do not want to be a nurse, but a bachelor’s degree is something that is important to me to achieve. I have 5 or 6 classes to take before I can transfer to a university, and I intend on completing them for the transfer in the next year or so. Until then, I plan on studying their available majors and finally picking one once and for all; One that I want to pursue and that actually means something to me.
3) My last goal is more of a subjective goal than an objective goal, but I want to also continue to learn about and better myself; my hopes, dreams, goals, desires, wishes, and interests. Since I started to really listen to myself and pursue things that interest me, I have been happier than ever. My life has been enriched, money and job opportunities have flown at me, my relationship is better than ever, I appreciate my family so much more, etc. I have made self-improvement a top goal and priority in my life, and the results have just been amazing.
I love life and nothing makes me more excited than living life to the fullest and sharing it with the people I love. The next few years my goal would be to travel and see the world, experience different cultures, I think it is one of the most important things that make life really more interesting. Another big goal that I have is to have a business and a career path that I enjoy and love, and that is God’s plan for me and is according to his will. I am at my quarter life right now and the next few years are very vital to my future.
it’s so hard for me to answer this, while i feel very stuck in my couch. but do have some goals:
1. lose weight and get really pretty
2. make more friends
3. change my eating habits and have beter ones
4. be in more acting project
5. have more fun
6. get a boyfriend
7. earn my own money
– Visit China.
– Get my works in order. Be it freelancing or 9-17 job.
– Achieve work-rest balance.
– Put in practice daily sleeping routine.
– Achieve greater level serenity and peace.
– Be able to speak/read/write Chinese at level 3.
– Develop my emotional intelligence to a higher level, so I would feel and act responsible for myself and my emotions. This is connected with higher level of consciousness.
– Make my hobby a semi-business, or at least beneficial for my home and my relatives.
– Be in better financial situation, so money cannot be an excuse of not doing something.
I know my goals a pretty vague and not measurable, so when I do this again during 30DLBL, I’ll try to make them more clear ;)
Now it represent more on what I would like to be achieved, what I would want to be – taking in consideration that I think 5 years is a decent amount of time, reminding myself that if I don’t take action – I could very well be at the same place then.
1) founding a family, becoming a wonderful mother, having wonderful children
2) becoming a part-time traditional psychotherapist
3) remaining a sporty person with a good posture and a good weight
4) finding a wonderful home for my family
5) rising the time I am happy and laughing
6) growing and becoming more conscious and aware
7) having a wonderful longlasting relationship with my boyfriend
8) staying independend and mobile
9) focussing on my goals
10) having wonderful friends and hobbies
Established myself by continuing to pursue MBA in petroleum and gas. Learn more about the Aqua culture and the application of providing food for the whole area. Study how you will provide the sustainability in the area of Sablayan where I plan to spend the remaining years of my life.
I’ve been a bit behind with these questions due to lack of internet access…so here we go!
It tends to scare me planning too far into the future, but I know it’s something I have to do. I can’t really imagine in too much detail what the next few years will hold for me, and I know I need to spend more time focusing on it. So…
By the beginning of next year, I should have completed my TEFL course, so I’d like to spend some time working abroad and experiencing a new culture, and developing my career. Hopefully, over the next few years my confidence in becoming a teacher will have greatly improved, and I’d like to think I’d be a positive influence in my teaching. I’d also like to become fluent in another language; I’ve been struggling with teaching myself Italian for months now, and am succeeding at a snail’s pace, so ideally I’d like to spend some time in the country (maybe incorporating the teaching!), or get myself a tutor. Maybe some people are better at self-study than I am, but I think I need some discipline in my studies to actually get somewhere!
I’ve been with my partner for three years now, and I’d like to think we’ll still be together over the next few years…although our paths seem to be going different ways for now. I think that is a struggle at times, and it terrifies me to imagine us being apart, or what will happen if the worst occurred and we broke up, and I was alone. I think, over the next few years I’d like to be in a healthier state of mind about my relationship: not worry so much about the ups and downs we’ve had in the past and the “what ifs?” that may occur in the future. I’d like to focus on my own goals, and acknowledge he’s focusing on his, without thinking the worst. I hope that in three years, we remain a strong couple, and we’ve both achieved what we desire in life. In order to do that (on my part, at least) I need to learn to relax, and think “what will be, will be”.
I’d also like to have made some significant progress in yoga, which I’ve recently taken up again. I’m sure if I continue with this practice, no doubt it’ll help me with the above-mentioned worrying!

Within the next 3 years I would like to pay off my credit cards, reduce my debt to nothing but student loans. Within the next year, I need to lose about 30lb pounds.
However my primary goal, preferably within the next year, is to find a better paying, enjoyable job. I am employed full time, which is really a blessing in this day and age, but I really do despise my dead in job. While the first two goals are certainly important to me, leaving my unfulfilling, dead end job and actually beginning a career is at the very top of my list.
I’d also like to travel to Europe within the next few years. I don’t even care what country, I just want to experience life outside the United States, if only for a week or so.
My biggest goals for the next few years are to graduate college and be full time. My major goal is to be happy. If I could be happy then I know that I could conquer whatever comes my way.
In no particular order at this point:
1. to find my true passion
2. to start a profitable business venture based on that passion
3. to decide where we would like to move to next
4. to establish a trust fund for our youngest son so that he will never have financial worries

9. to have a vacation drive across the United States

2. Return to school and begin a new career.
3. Learn to put myself first. How else am I to be able to take good care of others?
4. For me and my family to become active physically, socially and spiritually.
5. Raise happy, healthy, confident, capable kids.
I hope you are successful.
My number one goal is to see myself a bigger person, more assertive, revealing more talents, happier and friendlier. My appearance must also be better, ie I would have a good taste in which clothes I should wear and how to do good make up, etc.
Number two is to be more proactive at work. I like to make my own decision, which must be wise and doable, and confident to defend it with others.
Number three is to have financial independent with passive income from different sources.
